II. Bài mẫu Discussing the Mid-autumn festival in Vietnam
Apart from Tet holiday, the Mid-Autumn or Fullmoon Festival holds significant importance in Vietnam. This festival occurs annually on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, when the moon is at its fullest and brightest. Originating thousands of years ago, it initially celebrated bountiful harvests and fertility. Today, it primarily honors children.
Mytourarations commence a month before the festival. In the lead-up, dragon and lion dancers practice on the streets, and numerous pop-up stalls featuring various mooncake brands appear across every corner, selling adorned boxes filled with cakes of diverse flavors. Mooncakes symbolize completeness and unity through their round, moon-like shape, and come in a vast array of enticing fillings, ranging from traditional sweet green beans and lotus seeds to modern flavors like durian or matcha. Other traditional dishes served during this festival include lotus root, green sticky rice, sweet rice balls or watermelon, each with symbolic meanings.
The festival's highlight is on the full moon night when children carry brightly lit star-shaped lanterns, forming lantern processions through neighborhoods while singing songs. This tradition originates from the folk tale of Cuoi, a man who accidentally rode a magical banyan tree to the moon and became stranded there. The lanterns' light guides Cuoi back to Earth. Additionally, dragon and lion dances, symbolizing luck and prosperity, are essential parts of the festivities.
During their journey, dragons and lions visit homes, dancing to bless them with good luck. In return, hosts offer them lucky money as a token of gratitude.
In my childhood, this festival and its anticipation were my favorite times of the year. I would indulge in mooncakes and sweets, join colorful lantern parades with friends, dragons, and lions. My grandparents, once skilled craftsmen who made traditional star lanterns, eventually ceased their craft due to declining interest in handcrafted lanterns.
All my lanterns were crafted by them, and they even taught me how to make one, a challenging yet enjoyable process. Although I have less time to celebrate now, memories of those joyful days remain vivid, reminding me of the warmth and happiness of the past.
