Bài mẫu Staying up late IELTS Speaking Part 1
1. What do you do when you stay up late?
Well I guess my answer might be similar to some of us – working. Especially when me and my team are way behind the schedule. We have to optimize our night time to finish a report, or sometime to brainstorm new ideas and to get ready for our upcoming meetings. Sounds hard right? But I’ve got used to it.
- Similar to: giống với
- Behind the schedule: trễ deadline, trễ lịch
- Brainstorm: động não
- Get use to something: làm quen với một thứ gì đó
2. Have you ever pulled an all-nighter?
A plenty of times I have to admit. Yeah I know that staying up all night is not good for our health. It will mess up our circadian rhythm. But as we grow up, we barely have enough sleep. Recently I have been burning the midnight oil for my monthly report. Hate it so much but I have no choice.
- Admit: thừa nhận
- Mess up: làm đảo lộn, làm rối loạn
- Burn the midnight oil: thức khuya làm việc
- Have no choice: không còn cách nào khác
3. How do you feel the day after staying up late?
I don’t feel good obviously. The next morning will be such a nightmare for me. I usually feel a bit dizzy and sleepy at the beginning. Sometimes it ends up way more seriously, like losing my concentration ability. But all I need is just a cup of black coffee and a good sleep later on.
- Dizzy: chóng mặt
- Concentration ability: khả năng tập trung
4. How do you manage to stay alert if you stay up late?
I would go for a cup of black coffee. It can keep you awake for hours. Caffeine works for me in case of staying up late. Some other solutions are to wash your face with cold water, it will give you a full refresh of both your mind and your body. Or sometimes upbeat music can help you during your late night shift.
- Night shift: ca làm việc đêm
- Upbeat music: nhạc sôi động
5. Is staying up late good for your health?
It’s definitely a no for me. To be honest I consider myself as a night owl. I usually have to stay up late until 3 or 4 in the morning, fully packed with reports and tables and the next day is not good at all. I always feel dizzy, sleepy and sometimes I can’t stifle a big yawn in front of my boss. Shame on me!
- Packed with: bận rộn với
- Stifle: ngăn
- Yawn: ngáp
- Shame on me: thật đáng xấu hổ
6. Did you stay up late when you were young?
Yes, definitely. My mom always insisted on me going to bed early from what I recall. At that time, I found it quite frustrating because there were many interesting anime shows that aired only after 9 PM. However, now I wish I had the opportunity to get a proper night's rest every day. My ultimate goal is to avoid working late into the night.
7. How important do you think sleep is?
Speaking of sleep, it is an essential step in our circadian rhythm. It is the time for the body to start some particular biochemical reactions to recover after a long day. Insomniacs are reported to suffer serious medical conditions as hypertension, stroke or heart disease.
- Biochemical reaction: phản ứng sinh hóa

8. How many hours of sleep do you typically get at night?
It's recommended to get 6-8 hours of sleep per night for a good night's rest. Personally, if I don't have to stay up late for work, I usually sleep for 6 hours, from 11 PM to 5 AM the next day. That's usually sufficient for me. I'm someone who generally can't sleep more than 6 hours. I suppose I'm a light sleeper.
9. How have your sleeping patterns changed since you were a child?
Completely opposite! When I was a kid, I didn’t have to do any homework late at night. Don’t get me wrong. I was not a lazy student. I just preferred doing homework early in the morning to get a better focus. So I always sleep early, around 9pm. But as an adult, I have no choice but to sacrifice my sleep just to get my work to meet the deadline.
- Don’t get me wrong: đừng hiểu sai ý tôi
- Sacrify: hi sinh
- Meet the deadline: theo kịp deadline
10. What are your tips for staying awake when you have to work late?
My first suggestion is to drink a glass of cold water, coffee, or tea, depending on your preference. Coffee works best for me, but my mom, for example, finds that cold water refreshes her. Secondly, consider your posture. Sitting upright is more effective than lying down while working or studying. Lastly, music can be a lifesaver. I've discovered that listening to jazz or lo-fi music late at night helps me stay calm and focused.- Posture: tư thế.
