If you inquire about a renowned festival in Vietnam, I will surely discuss Tet Holiday, also known as Lunar New Year in Vietnam.
Typically falling at the end of January and spanning three days, Tet holiday in Vietnam commemorates the departure of the old year and welcomes the new with abundant blessings. During Tet, families reunite to catch up with one another. Additionally, many households celebrate by preparing traditional foods such as banh chung (Vietnamese square cake), dried candied fruits, braised pork and eggs, and adorning their homes with parallel sentences, peach, or apricot blossoms.
Especially for children, Tet holiday is eagerly anticipated as they receive lucky money from adults, symbolizing good wishes for the new year. For adults, it's a time for thorough spring cleaning and preparing delicious meals to honor ancestors.
In today's era, Tet has somewhat lost its original essence for many adults, who view it simply as a holiday offering a two-week respite to unwind and relieve stress. However, to me, Tet remains a unique festival of Vietnam.
Whenever Tet approaches, I feel a deep sense of belonging, reminded of the richness of our culture with its diverse rituals and culinary traditions. Tet also serves as a unifying force, ensuring families gather amidst the hustle and bustle of modern life.
That concludes my reflections on Tet in Vietnam.
- In honor of = nhân dịp
- Sense of belonging = cảm giác thuộc về
- Drift apart = dần xa cách
- Tighten the bonds = thắt chặt mối quan hệ
- Hustle and bustle = sự hối hả, bận rộn
- Blow off some steam = nghỉ xả hơi
