Larry Stewart started from modest origins. Born in Mississippi in 1948 and raised by his grandparents, he faced unemployment and hunger in 1971. A generous meal from a restaurant owner inspired him to commit to helping others.

Larry later relocated to Kansas City, where he succeeded in the cable television industry. In 1979, he began assisting those in need, leading to the rise of the “Secret Santa” stories in the city.

For more than 26 years, he distributed thousands of dollars each Christmas to those in need in public areas, maintaining his anonymity. As his generosity grew, so did the stories about him across the United States. Despite his fame, Secret Santa remained a mystery.

He concealed his identity until 2006, when cancer was diagnosed, leading to his death later. Following Larry Stewart's passing in 2007, his legacy has motivated others to pursue similar acts of kindness and charitable endeavors.

Born in 1988, Le Thanh Thuy was honored with the title ‘Outstanding Young Citizen of Ho Chi Minh City’ in 2006, a year before her death. Diagnosed with bone cancer in 2003 upon starting high school, doctors had to amputate her leg to save her life.

Despite being hospitalized repeatedly over four years, Thuy continued to assist other patients. She aspired to create a fund for young cancer patients. Whenever she could, she organized various charity events to ease the suffering of young patients. Her impactful work received community support, leading to the establishment of Thuy’s Dream Programme, now managed by The Tuoi Tre.

The Tuoi Tre has maintained annual events to support her programme, with the Sunflower Festival being the most significant. This event brings children and their families together for enjoyment, provides gifts to young patients, and honors Thuy’s legacy through her story of compassion and generosity.
