Model response
The table provides information about the workforce in silk production in two countries, England and Wales, over a period of 50 years starting from 1851.
It is clear that the total number of silk workers in the two countries declined over the period shown, and that significantly more women were employed than men in this industry. Also, the number of silk manufacturing factories increased over the 50 year period, despite fluctuations.
In 1851, the silk workforce was largest with 130,750 people, including 76,786 females and nearly 54,000 males. In contrast, there was the lowest number of silk factories, with only 272 factories, in 1851. However, ten years later, the number of silk manufacturers reached 761, nearly triple that of the first year while the total number of employees experienced a significant fall of over 20,000 people.
Over the following 41 years, the total number of female and male workers decreased gradually throughout the period, to 25,567 and 13,375 respectively, which contributed to the drop in the total number of employees at 38,942 in 1901. Meanwhile, there was a slight decrease in the figure for factories, which was down to 623 by the end of the period.

Should the government encourage people to move to regional towns?
Model answer
In recent years, there have been a number of problems that people in big cities have to cope with every day. My essay will discuss two major problems which are pollution and information overload, and personally I think those people should be encouraged to move to regional areas.
The escalation of pollution levels has become a major cause for concern among urban residents. Due to the heavy traffic flow, significant amounts of pollutants like CO2 are continually emitted into the atmosphere, leading to the deterioration of air quality. This is closely linked to various respiratory illnesses, including lung cancer. Moreover, urban inhabitants are inundated with excessive information from various media sources, such as television, social media platforms, and advertisements, a substantial portion of which comprises fake news or exaggerated commercials. This can result in confusion or even social unrest.
In my view, it is imperative for the government to take measures to encourage urban residents to relocate to rural areas. Firstly, this would decrease the number of vehicles in cities, thereby improving the air quality which is currently compromised by traffic-related pollution. Additionally, reducing the urban population would alleviate the strain on housing supply systems in these cities, where many people are forced to live in cramped, uncomfortable conditions. I believe this aspect is crucial as living conditions directly impact people's mental well-being and productivity at work.
To conclude, severe air pollution and information overload are among the most pressing issues confronting urban dwellers today, and I strongly feel that authorities should promote the migration of people to other regions for habitation.
