Opting to block notification requests on the browser will help you turn off annoying notifications that appear every time you access a certain website address that has not been approved. Disabling website notification display on the web browser is extremely simple and can be done by following the steps below.
Blocking notification requests on the Web browser
Disable notification display on the Google Chrome browser
To disable the feature where websites ask if you want to display notifications on the Google Chrome browser, first click on the three-dot icon at the top right corner of the Chrome window, then select Settings.
On the Settings page, scroll down and click on the link Show Advanced Settings (to display advanced settings), then select Content Settings under the Privacy section.
Scroll down to the Notifications section and select Do not allow any site to show notifications.
After selecting this setup, the websites you allow can still display notifications. Click on Manage Exceptions to view the list of websites you've granted permission to show notifications and revoke permissions if desired.
If you want to receive notifications from a particular website, click on the Manage Exceptions button and grant permission for that website to display notifications.
Blocking notification requests on the Firefox web browser
Mozilla Firefox doesn't allow users to disable notifications for all websites in the regular Options window. Instead, you'll need to change this setting on the about:config hidden feature settings page.
To access a website, in the address bar of the Firefox browser, type about:config and then press Enter. A warning window will appear: 'Be careful when using the about:config page, as you could cause problems with Firefox by changing some settings'. Click select I accept the risk to continue.
In the Search box, type the search keyword notifications. Then find and double-click on the option dom.webnotifications.enabled to set the option value to False. This means that website notifications will be disabled on the Firefox browser.
This change will disable notifications for all websites, so you cannot choose to receive notifications from one or two websites like on the Chrome browser.
Turn off notification display on the Microsoft Edge browser
The Microsoft Edge browser on the Windows 10 Anniversary Update also supports receiving notifications. However, Microsoft does not provide users with any solution to disable all notifications and prevent websites from asking users whether they want to display notifications or not.
All you can do is click No when asked whether to allow the website to display notifications or not.
Edge browser will remember this, at least once on the current website, but on other websites, notification prompts will still appear asking if you want to display notifications.
Block notification display on Apple's Safari browser
Safari browser allows users to prevent websites from asking whether they want to receive notifications or not. To access this option, click on Safari => Preferences.
Select the Notifications tab, then scroll down the window and uncheck the option Allow websites to ask for permission to send push notifications.
When unchecking this option, the websites you allow will still display notifications. You can view and manage the list of websites allowed to display notifications in this window.
If you decide to unblock notification requests in the browser, simply follow the same steps and re-enable website notifications.
