I. Day 1 - 4 - 7 - 10: Review and apply grammar
I notice that my current sentences are almost simple sentences. Therefore, they are very easy to be abrupt while speaking. And I think I should practice more on grammar so that I can extend my sentences and arrange the words more logically and comprehensively. That will also help me improve Speaking skills effectively. The most valuable material for my practice is called: Intermediate to upper intermediate
In the above material, I will focus on common topics used in speaking such as:
- 'in spite of', 'despite', 'although', 'even though' and 'though'
- 'so' and 'such'
- Future plans
- Modifying comparisons
- Passives
- Present perfect
- Relative clauses – defining relative clauses
- Phrasal verbs
Every day, I study 2 topics and apply them to my self-practice speaking immediately. This is a way to improve Speaking Skills that you should consider.
II. Day 2 - 5 - 8 - 11: Combine listening + mimic (speaking loudly) + listening
This is my secret process to have accurate pronunciation. For those at a basic level, I recommend watching videos on passive reading and listening here. Videos from the Youtube channel Im Mary. The reading and listening videos here have very clear voices, at a moderate pace, and basic vocabulary. I don't need to look up words while reading and listening, instead, I focus more on reading and listening to mimic.
If you are at a decent level, I recommend listening to To fluency's podcast and mimicking the video's accent.
To increase the difficulty of listening + speaking practice, mimic Ted's videos. I find myself suited to listening to speeches and mimicking them, I feel this style is very polite for conversing with judges.
Of course, on days 2 and 5, I will practice all basic videos before gradually moving on to listening and mimicking videos at a decent and higher level. Refer to these shares on these days to improve Speaking skills.
III. Day 3 - 6 - 9 - 12 - 15: Learn vocabulary + apply it to forecasting
I will not study vocabulary in the videos, while watching videos to mimic, I only focus on pronouncing correctly. Not stopping to write down words to avoid losing focus on pronunciation practice.
I study vocabulary by topic in Forecast Speaking. I use the Forecast from a Chinese website called IELTSBro. You should download it, get the test, refer to their solutions, and study accordingly.
You should write your answer first if you're not used to setting up thoughts to speak in your head. Then, look back at it once and speak it out according to what you've written, try not to look at the sentence you wrote. On subsequent days, as you get more familiar, you should only take notes on the intended points to speak, and practice speaking alone to improve Speaking skills. (Having a partner to create a stimulating atmosphere would be even better).
IV. Day 13 - 14: Practice speaking with Google/ Siri to improve Speaking skills
These consecutive days are dedicated to practicing speaking with google translate or siri. To identify your mistakes and correct them on the 15th Forecast practice day. If you want more confidence in pronunciation and grammar error correction for yourself. You can purchase an Online Speaking Correction package, there are many available online. They will correct you in detail, making it easy for you to improve Speaking skills, right?
If you prefer free options, use the two tools mentioned above. If you give a command or read a sentence that google translate can listen to. If it types out everything you say, that means you're pronouncing correctly about 80%. Because it's a sharp machine, I only count that much %.
