TRANSFORMING WORD FILES TO EXCEL
* To convert a file, you need to prepare:
- Word file containing content to be transferred to Excel.
- Computer with Office suite installed to open Word, Excel
This article introduces two methods for you to convert Word files and data to Excel.
Method 1: Save as Plain Text and import into Excel
Step 1: Open the Word file you want to convert to Excel. On the Word interface, select the File ->Save As ->Browse (or press F12) to open the Save As window to save the file.
Step 2: In the Save As window, choose the folder to save the file, in the Save as type section, select the format as Plain Text then click
Step 3: When the File Conversion interface appears, check Other encoding and select Unicode(UTF-8) if your Word document uses pre-built Unicode to avoid font conversion errors when converting to Plain Text. Then, press OK to save the Word file as Plain Text format.
Step 4: Open a new Excel file, on the Excel interface, select the Data tab ->From Text.
Step 5: The Import Text File window appears. Navigate to the Plain Text file you just saved and click Import.
Step 6: In the Text Import Wizard - Step 1 of 3 window, select Delimited, if the data in your Word document is in a table format and already includes column headers, check My data has headers. Once done, click Next.
In Step 7: Proceed to the Text Import Wizard - Step 2 of 3 window. Choose the delimiter present in Word to separate columns. If you prefer not to split data based on delimiters, deselect all. Then, click on Next.
Step 8: Opt for the data format type within the Text Import Wizard - Step 3 of 3 section, then click Finish.
Step 9: In the Import Data dialog, select the destination to import data into:
- Choose Existing worksheet (current sheet);
Choose New sheet option.
Then, press OK to complete the Word to Excel conversion process.
The result in Excel file looks as shown in the image below:
The final step is to simply Save the Excel file if you don't want to make any further changes.
Method 2: Using Word to Excel conversion tool

- Note that the data in the Word file you want to convert must be in English or Vietnamese without accents to avoid font errors during conversion.

Step 2: Click on From Computer to select the Word file you want to convert.
Next, select the folder containing the Word file as shown in the image below:

The two methods of converting Word to Excel I just explained shouldn't be difficult for you to follow, right?
