Depending on individual work and study needs, when drafting documents in Word, you may want to see the total number of words, characters, lines, and pages of your document. However, everyone's Word skills differ, and limitations in skills are unavoidable. Counting Words in Word
Currently, there are quite a few versions of Word that users utilize, and Mytour will guide you from Word 2003 to Word 2007, 2010, 2013, and 2016. Readers, please follow along and share the article if you find it helpful.
1. Counting Words in Word 2003
Step 1: Select the entire text passage you want to count words for.
Step 2: Next, on the toolbar, click Tools and choose Word Count as shown in the image below.
Step 3: A small dialog box appears with all the details, and you can understand these parameters as follows:
- Pages: Count the number of pages
- Words: Count the number of words, characters in the document
- Character (no spaces): Count characters excluding spaces
- Character (including spaces): Count characters including spaces
- Paragraphs: Count the number of paragraphs in the document
- Lines: Count the number of lines in the document
As shown in the image above, Word 2003 has counted a total of 112 words.
2. Counting Words in Word 2007
Step 1: Similar to counting words in Word 2003, you select the entire text passage you want to count words for.
Step 2: Look down to the bottom left corner, you will see the Words parameter, double-click on it to display a dialog box listing the counted characters.
Similar to Word 2003, you can see all the parameters such as: Pages, Words, Character (no spaces), Character (including spaces), Paragraphs, Lines.
3. Counting Words in Word 2010, 2013, 2016
Step 1: Select the entire text passage you want to count words for in Word 2010, 2013, 2016.
Step 2: Navigate to the status bar at the bottom of Word and double-click on it to open the Word Count dialog box as shown below.
Similar to counting characters in Word 2003 and 2007, the Word Count dialog box will provide us with all the necessary information.
