The period between high school and university is often stressful for many students, so taking time off can refresh their minds and restore their motivation. They can then enter university with a renewed sense of purpose and without feeling that they missed out on valuable experiences. Thus, traveling offers numerous benefits to high school graduates. 

On the other hand, spending gap years working can be equally beneficial, which is why it appeals to some high school graduates. Working before university provides clear advantages in terms of life experience. As young adults face real-world challenges in the workplace, they can learn to navigate similar challenges later in life. Therefore, when they secure stable employment in the future, their prior work experience will enable them to adjust quickly and avoid culture shock. Additionally, having a job gives high school graduates a source of income. This allows them to enhance their financial management skills by planning and budgeting their expenses. It represents the first step toward financial independence, a crucial skill in adulthood. It appears that working offers more meaningful long-term benefits for high school graduates. 

In conclusion, while both employment and traveling benefit high school graduates, I strongly believe that work equips them with practical skills for their future careers. Therefore, choosing to work before attending university is the recommended path.
