How important luck is to achieving success is a topic of debate. While some argue that luck is the primary factor, I disagree with this viewpoint as hard work also significantly contributes to people's achievements.
The notion that luck is the predominant factor in achieving one's goals is not entirely baseless. It may be easier to achieve success if one is born into favorable circumstances. For instance, Anderson Cooper, a highly acclaimed broadcast journalist and familiar face on TV today, comes from the prestigious Vanderbilt family. This afforded him better education and resources, contributing to his successful career. Additionally, some individuals may be fortunate enough to hit their stride at the right moment, giving them a competitive edge in their field. Arnold Schwarzenegger was a leading action movie star decades ago due to his formidable physique at his peak, but today, few actors can sustain a career solely on action roles.
Nevertheless, luck alone does not determine one's success. I believe diligence and commitment play a more crucial role as they lay the groundwork for luck to play its part. While Arnold's example can be seen as someone who peaked at the right time, it's worth noting that he was already a successful bodybuilder before venturing into acting. Arnold had to dedicate himself to self-improvement before his talent could be recognized. Had he not strived for excellence from the outset, his life might have taken a different course. Considering this, it's evident that luck is not the primary driver of success.
In my view, while luck does contribute to success, hard work and determination are ultimately indispensable. Individuals aspiring to achieve their goals should focus on tangible efforts rather than relying solely on Fortune to smile upon them.
