3.1. Thì hiện tại đơn - Simple Present Tense
- Đối với động từ thường
+ (khẳng định): S + vs/es + o
+ (phủ định): S + do/does + not + v + o
+ (interrogative): Do/does + s + v + o?
- Đối với động từ tobe
+ (affirmative): S + am/is/are + o
+ (negative): S + am/is/are + not + o

- Các từ chỉ tần suất: Always, every, usually, often, sometimes, rarely, generally, frequently, seldom, never, ...
Lưu ý: Thêm 'Es' vào các động từ kết thúc bằng: O, s, x, ch, sh. Quy tắc thêm “s/es”
- Đối với động từ kết thúc bằng “o, x, s, z, sh, ch” thì thêm es

- Đối với động từ kết thúc bằng “y” mà trước đó là một phụ âm thì thay “y” bằng “ies”

Phương pháp phát âm đuôi “s/ es”
- /iz/ xuất hiện khi âm cuối là /dʒ/, /z/, /s/, /ʃ/, /tʃ/, /ʒ/
- /s/ khi âm cuối là /f/, /p/, /k/, /t/, /θ/
- /z/ khi âm cuối là các âm khác còn lại.
3.2. Thì hiện tại tiếp diễn - present progressive
- Công thức:
+ Khẳng định: S + be (am/ is/ are) + v_ing + o
+ Phủ định: S + be + not + v_ing + o
+ Nghi vấn: Be + S + v_ing + o
- Dấu hiệu nhận biết: now, right now, at present, at the moment, look!, listen!, be quiet!, keep silent!
* Lưu ý:
Thì này không áp dụng cho các động từ chỉ nhận thức như: To be, see, hear, understand, know, like, want, glance, feel, think, smell, love, hate, realize, seem, remember, forget,.........
Quy tắc thêm đuôi -ing
- Thông thường, chúng ta chỉ cần gắn đuôi “ing” vào sau động từ.
Ví dụ: play => playing
- Nếu động từ kết thúc bằng “e”, ta bỏ “e” trước khi thêm “ing”
Ví dụ: make => making
- Nếu động từ kết thúc bằng “ee”, chỉ cần thêm “ing” vào sau
Ví dụ: see => seeing
- Nếu động từ kết thúc bằng “ie”, đổi “ie” thành “y” trước khi thêm “ing”
Ví dụ: lie => lying
- Quy tắc gấp đôi phụ âm khi thêm “ing”: Đối với động từ một âm tiết, kết thúc bằng “Nguyên âm + Phụ âm” (trừ h, w, x, y), ta gấp đôi phụ âm rồi thêm “ing”.
