Content | I know that that is a very grand goal, and few who aim for it ever achieve it, but that is okay. There is a saying “shoot for the moon, and even if you miss, you will land among the stars”. I really like this saying and it has deep meaning for me and how I approach life. Maybe I will not actually make it to the level of athletic perfection required to compete at the caliber of the Olympic games but I am no less motivated to try. The Olympics are almost the definition of peak athletic skill. The summer and winter Olympics happen every four years, offset so that one or the other happens every second year, and the location changes during each games so that they move around the world. The reason I am so dedicated to taking part in it is the fact that it is for all people of the world to compete with each other side by side, in the spirit of a world community competing for the betterment of all of ourselves. |

What types of competitions are frequently featured on television programs?
Very common contests on TV would include any kinds of sports events, but singing competitions are also quite popular. Anything that can be used to create drama and excited are bound to be used in television. While I am not a particular fan of TV competitions, I do understand why they are so popular.

I think that the reason they are so popular is because people love competition in general. They love the risk that the person that they are backing may lose, and the joy of them winning. Competition shows are an easy way for people to get a second hand dose of excitement without needing to put in the work or risk of actually participating.

Which industries require competition? Why?
I think the majority of industries would benefit from competition. This is because when competition is not present, people, as well as companies, can become complacent and their output quality can drop. A lack of competition also fosters an environment where corruption is more likely to fester because no other options are available.

Do you believe it is important to motivate employees to compete with one another within companies?
I think that it is probably beneficial to companies to have their staff competing both internally and externally, though only to a certain extent. Internal competition would include people working hard to ensure that they are the one who receives the promotion, where external competition would be developing a culture in which the working teams want to out perform a competing company. This would all be in the best interests of the company as long as they can prevent these corporate culture trends from becoming toxic.
