1. What are the most favored and least favored applications in China?
To be completely honest, I am not someone deeply knowledgeable about Chinese social media. Therefore, I cannot provide a precise evaluation of the least utilized apps in China. However, one might speculate that judging by trends and extensive discussions among politicians from various nations, TikTok currently stands as the foremost platform in China. Nevertheless, TikTok appears to offer a more diverse range of content. Since 2016, TikTok has amassed 1.5 billion users, an astonishing figure for such a young platform.
- Candid (adj) = bluntly honest = frank: thẳng thật
Candor (n): sự thăng thật, thật thà - Well-versed (adj): biết nhiều; có chuyên môn, kiến thức sâu
2. What’s the distinction between the Internet and television?
The Internet offers an extensive selection, along with greater diversity in content, whereas TV content is more focused and official. On the Internet, users can access not only visual content but also articles, scholarly readings, and even communication forums. However, due to this diversity, users must learn to filter information to avoid misinformation. In contrast, TV content is less diverse. Unless viewers subscribe to a package that includes entertainment channels, TV struggles to match the Internet’s speed of content delivery.
- A vast array = a wide range = a diverse range: 1 mảng rộng; 1 tập hợp bao gồm
- Filter (v) : sàng lọc
3. Why do some individuals prefer obtaining news from the Internet instead of TV?
I believe that nowadays, most individuals tend to seek information online because it is faster and more accessible. For example, many people use social media platforms like Twitter, Reddit, and Facebook not only to gather news but also to discuss and share it. Additionally, platforms such as YouTube allow users to watch news videos from channels dedicated to specific topics. Another reason is that TV tends to provide only “safe” or filtered information to appeal to a broader audience and avoid controversy.
4. Is the library still essential? Why?
From my perspective, due to digitalization, the decline of libraries is unfortunately inevitable. The Internet offers a quicker and more dynamic means to access and consume books. People can easily purchase books online without needing to visit or borrow from a library. While some still value libraries for their role in preserving books and cultural heritage, I support the idea of repurposing them as vintage spaces or museum exhibits. Not everyone has easy access to bookstores and libraries, making online access the optimal solution.
- Digitalization (n): số hóa
- Inevitable (adj): không thể tránh khỏi
Inevitability (n): sự không tránh khỏi - Optimal (adj): tối ưu
5. What types of individuals still frequent libraries for reading and study?
I can identify several groups of people. Older generations visit libraries to read books that were popular during their time, often preferring print media due to eyesight issues or discomfort with screens. Additionally, academics frequently utilize library archives to access older materials for their research.
- Academia (n): ngành giáo dục, ngành nghiên cứu; hàn lâm; học viện
6. What are the distinctions between older and younger individuals in their internet usage?
Older generations typically use the internet primarily for work-related tasks. Many adults and middle-aged individuals began using the internet during their careers, when its primary uses were email communication, messaging, and indirect marketing. Entertainment websites and social media were scarce in the mid-90s and early 2000s, making them relatively new phenomena for our generation. In contrast, younger generations grow up with a wide array of entertainment websites and social media platforms, leading to a more diverse online experience from a younger age. While the younger generation spends more extended periods engaging dynamically online, older adults tend to be more focused and efficient, primarily using the internet for work purposes.
