Model Answer
Honestly, I'm not a morning person at all. So, waking up early is usually a challenging routine for me. Most of the time, I try to complete all my homework at night and stay in bed until it’s almost time for school. However, there was an occasion when I decided to establish a new habit of waking up early because people claimed it would enhance my productivity and energy throughout the day. Additionally, it would give me more time to pursue my interests. So, on a summer day last year, I decided to initiate my plan to wake up at 6 AM instead of my usual 7 AM. To achieve this, I went to bed quite early, before 10 PM the previous day, and set a loud alarm for 6 AM.
Fortunately, I managed to wake up and get out of bed at the planned time, even though I wasn't fully awake. I made myself a cup of coffee to help wake up and started reading a novel. However, reading made me even sleepier, and I ended up falling asleep at the table after just 2 pages. Since that day, I've come to realize that I'm naturally a night person and I won't attempt to adopt the habit of waking up early again.
Vocabulary Highlights
- an early bird (n): người dậy sớm
- kick-start (v): khởi động
- a night owl (n): người “cứu đêm”
Part 3:
1. What types of individuals usually wake up early? Why?
I believe older people, like my grandmother, often do so. This could be attributed to the fact that as people age, they produce less melatonin, the hormone responsible for deep sleep. Consequently, they may experience lighter sleep, typically lasting just over 4 hours. Additionally, individuals who commute long distances for work rise at dawn to accommodate their job responsibilities. Often, they wake up an hour or two earlier to prepare for their commute.
- Get up at dawn (v): dậy sớm
2. Do older individuals find it easier to wake up early compared to younger people?
Absolutely. While my sisters and I struggle to wake up before school, my grandmother is consistently awake by 5 am. This is primarily due to their declining health, which is not as robust as it was in their youth. Younger individuals typically require 7 or 8 hours of sleep each night to recharge their batteries after a busy day.
- Recharge one’s batteries (v): lấy lại năng lượng
3. What are the advantages of waking up early?
Based on my readings, this practice offers numerous benefits. The foremost one being that it allows the body ample time to prepare for busy activities later in the day after some moments of relaxation. The earlier one rises, the more opportunities there are to accomplish various tasks. Instead of sleeping late, you can utilize the time to engage in activities of interest.
- Sleep in (v): ngủ nướng
4. Why do certain individuals stay awake until late at night?
In my view, it usually happens because during the day, they get distracted by non-essential activities such as surfing the internet, watching movies, or chatting with friends. And as the day winds down, they suddenly panic and rush to complete their tasks. Moreover, the quietness at night provides a serene environment conducive for focused work or study. The motivation to sleep supports meeting deadlines.
- Freak out (v): hoảng loạn, lo sợ, sợ hãi
- Assist in (v): hỗ trợ
- Meet deadlines (v): hoàn thành nhiệm vụ
5. Do you believe mornings are the best time of day?
No, I don’t. Personally, I find evenings to be the most enjoyable part of the day. The feeling of relaxing after a long day's hard work is exquisite. Mornings are not my favorite due to the stress of waking up early, getting ready, or rushing to school. However, they are crucial for starting the day.
- Let one’s hair down (v): thư giãn
- Sublime (a): tuyệt vời
6. What time do you usually wake up? And do you enjoy waking up early?
As mentioned earlier, I typically wake up at 7 am, but it varies. If there's something I need to do, I wake up earlier at 5 or 6 am. On weekends, I allow myself to stay in bed until I feel hungry. I'm not fond of waking up early. Rising early often results in feeling more tired after a brief nap. Nonetheless, I make an effort to sleep early to have ample time to improve myself.
