Structuring your English letter writing

Step 1: Writing the opening greeting of the letter

Một bức thư dù gửi cho bạn hay bất kỳ ai đều nên có lời chào đầu thư, người học có thể tham khảo các mẫu:

• Dear Anna,

• Hello Anna,

• Hi Anna,

• Dearest Anna, 

Lưu ý: Người học cần sử dụng dấu phẩy thay cho dấu chấm than như thư tiếng Việt.

Bước thứ hai: Chào hỏi thân thiết

Vì đây là một lá thư cho một người bạn, văn phong của nó sẽ không quá trang trọng. Vì vậy, trước khi đến với nội dung chính của bức thư, người học có thể thể hiện cảm xúc quan tâm, chia sẻ, tâm sự… đối với người bạn của mình.

Một vài mẫu câu hỏi thăm:

• How have you been these days?/ How are you doing? (Dạo này bạn thế nào rồi?)

• Thanks for the letter you’ve sent me… (Cảm ơn vì đã gửi thư cho mình…)

• I’ve heard that recently… (Mình có biết là dạo gần đây…)

• I hope this letter finds you well (Mình mong là bạn vẫn khỏe)

• Thank you for your last letter (Cảm ơn vì lá thư trước)

• I know it's been a while since I've written to you. (Mình không nhớ lần cuối mình gửi thư cho bạn là khi nào)

• There's so much I need to share with you! (Mình có rất nhiều chuyện muốn kể với bạn)

Bước thứ ba: Redigera huvudinnehållet i brevet

Ở phần nội dung chính, người học nên nêu ra lý do viết thư và trình bày về nội dung cần trao đổi. Sau đó, người học có thể gửi lời quan tâm đến bạn của mình bằng cách đặt thêm những câu hỏi.

Một số câu mẫu:

• I am writing to tell you that + lý do viết thư… (Mình viết thư này để cho bạn biết rằng…)

• I am delighted to announce that + nội dung chính (Mình rất mừng để báo cho bạn rằng…)

• I was delighted to hear that… (Mình rất vui khi nghe được…)

• I am sorry to inform you that (Mình rất tiếc phải báo với bạn rằng…)

• I was so sorry to hear that (Mình rất tiếc khi phải nghe …)

• What do you think about + lời đề nghị (Bạn nghĩ sao về …)

• Tell me if you are interested in the + lời mời (Phản hồi cho mình nếu bạn hứng thú với…)

Bước thứ tư: Truyền đi lời chào và lời chúc đến bạn

Sau khi đã trình bày nội dung chính, một lá thư nên kết thúc bằng những lời chào thân mật hoặc những lời chúc tốt đẹp trong tương lai và chữ ký của người viết thư.

Các mẫu câu thường gặp:

• I’m looking forward to hearing from you! (Mình mong nhận phản hồi từ bạn)

• Have a wonderful Christmas! (Giáng sinh an lành nhé!)

• Hoping to hear from you soon! (Mong nhận phản hồi từ bạn sớm)

• Wish all the best will come to you! (Mong những điều tốt đẹp sẽ đến với bạn nhé!)

• I hope we will meet soon ,take care and best of luck for the future. (Mong chúng ta sẽ gặp nhau sớm, bảo trọng và may mắn nhé!)

• Take care of yourself and your family. (Chúc bạn và gia đình nhiều sức khỏe)

• I will be very happy if you join me on this occasion (Mình sẽ rất vui nếu có sự tham dự của bạn)

Từ ngữ thường sử dụng khi viết thư bằng tiếng Anh

Một số điều cần lưu ý khi viết thư

Về văn phong, người viết có thể thoải mái với cách dùng từ vì đây được cho là một lá thư gửi cho bạn bè thân thiết. Tuy nhiên, cách thức trình bày vẫn nên đúng tiêu chuẩn của một lá thư bao gồm: lời chào, nội dung viết thư, lời chúc và kết thư. Người học đảm bảo đúng chính tả trong toàn bộ lá thư.

Đối với tình huống viết thư trong các kỳ thi tiếng Anh, thí sinh nên lập dàn ý trước cho bức thư của mình. Những điều cần xác định như sau:

• Người nhận bức thư này là ai?

• Lý do viết thư là gì?

• Nội dung chính cần trao đổi là gì?
