IELTS Speaking part 1: Discussing your career choice
Mời bạn cùng nghe Podcast bài mẫu Part 1 của Mytour nhé:
1. What career do you aspire to have a decade from now?
I would definitely continue my journey in the field of education. After investing years in studying pedagogy and English, I find contentment in teaching, despite its challenges. In ten years, I envision myself as a lecturer at a prestigious university. But who knows what the future holds?
2. How beneficial will English be for your future endeavors?
If I claimed my existence depended on it, some might find it amusing, but this is undoubtedly true. As an English teacher, the language is indispensable to my profession and forms the basis of my income. Moreover, English enables me to access global knowledge, so I argue that without English, my future would not be the same.
3. How do you anticipate your life will evolve in the future?
Predicting the future is challenging, but I envision myself relentlessly advancing in my career. By then, my older self may be balancing family responsibilities alongside professional demands with agility. However, ultimately, everything will fall into place, won't it?

I stumbled upon the documentary Abstract: The art of design several years ago, and I became so engrossed in it that I watched both of its seasons in one sitting. I decided to convince my parents to support me in following this ambition after watching an episode about Instagram designers occasionally creating new features. I was able to persuade them because I am currently a university student studying digital products and will be employed in the sector in a few years.
Product designers will very doubt wear numerous hats in this hard career, from user research and wireframing to UX writing or even simple software coding. I’d like to think that this is a line-crossing career that combines elements of both being an artist and an entrepreneur.
Impressive, isn't it? I'll be collaborating with and reporting to the product manager as a software designer, developing wireframes into final solutions for various applications. During my time in college, I aim to cultivate diverse skills, from programming to design thinking, essential for this career path.
Despite how promising it may seem, this profession can occasionally be difficult. A digital product designer must be skilled in a variety of areas, thus it stands to reason that everyone in this field must be a true polymath. Just picture having to be excellent at these things while juggling art and design, strategy and aesthetics, and finding a delicious solution to these problems while still needing to uphold the product’s ideals.
But as you well know, difficulties are necessary for progress, and I am confident that my nimbleness and work ethic will be sufficient to propel me up this career ladder.

1. What are the most challenging occupations that people engage in?
I believe it largely depends. It’s quite tough to narrow down the list of “challenging” occupations to just a few because every person has unique talents and shortcomings. Personally, I think that each career has its own unique demands, therefore we shouldn’t arbitrarily assume that some are harder than others. Not to mention that everyone of us has different performance expectations and work ethics. For instance, some employees may find the same job tasks at the same level in the same business manageable, but many others may be under stress.
- Narrow down (v): thu hẹp lại
- Shortcomings (n): thiếu sót
- Unique demands (n): nhu cầu độc đáo
- Arbitrarily (adv): tùy ý
2. Why do you think some individuals opt for challenging occupations?
As someone who enjoys adventure, I can somewhat get why some people would choose to pursue a more demanding work path. Some of us occasionally find that a challenging and unpredictable job provides the career pleasure we seek. The choice of our future profession is also influenced by our passion. Yes, it might be harder, but as long as we’re driven and pursuing our goals, I believe that would make our lives a lot more satisfying.
- Demanding (adj): khó khăn, nhiều yêu cầu
- Satisfying (adj): thỏa mãn
3. Do you agree or disagree that every job can be challenging at times?
Of course. Athletes and nurses may have physically more demanding work than others, but it is undeniable that even the seemingly easiest vocations can eventually become mentally taxing. I would say that it’s a part of our existence that we have to deal with a lot of things, ranging from professional to personal difficulties, rather than claiming that it is entirely due to the nature of the work. Sometimes, when we don’t maintain a healthy work-life balance, our work performance and even our motivation to work might quickly decline. So yeah, any vocation occasionally requires effort.
- Mentally taxing (adj): đánh thuế tinh thần
- Vocation (n): công việc
4. Is persistent effort always essential for achieving success in one's career?
Not everyone is destined for this. Some are born with the talent that propels them to success in their careers. However, for the majority of us, success is largely a result of hard work. This doesn't diminish the achievements of those with innate abilities. Objectively speaking, every accomplishment, big or small, stems from dedication to pursuing personal goals. I believe that the effort put into one's work may not always meet our expectations.- Soar in (v): thành công
- Hard labor (n): lao động vất vả
