We chose the custom of celebrating the Tet holiday, or Lunar New Year, which is widely practiced in our hometown and all over Vietnam.

What is the custom/tradition? Tet is the most important and popular holiday and festival in Vietnam. It's the Vietnamese New Year based on the lunar calendar.
Who practices it? Almost everyone in Vietnam, regardless of their location or background, celebrates Tet.
Where and when do people practice it? It is celebrated nationwide, usually in late January or early February, depending on the lunar calendar. The celebration lasts for about a week.
What do people do? Activities include cleaning and decorating homes, cooking special holiday meals (such as Bánh Chưng and Bánh Dày), giving and receiving red envelopes containing money for good luck, visiting relatives and friends, and paying respects to ancestors. Fireworks displays and dragon dances are also common in some areas.
Why do people practice that custom/tradition? The primary purpose of Tet is to enjoy a new beginning and to remember ancestors. It's a time for families to come together, to appreciate the past year and to look forward to the future.
