Encrypting Facebook Messages
Not long ago, Facebook introduced a feature called Secret Conversations, encrypting both received and sent messages and allowing users to delete messages on both sending and receiving devices.
Follow the steps below to encrypt Facebook messages using the Secret Conversations feature:
Step 1: Start by opening the Facebook Messenger app on your device.
Step 2: Next, choose Compose Message.
Step 3: Select Secret (secret message) located in the top right corner of the screen.
Step 4: Choose the user you want to engage in a conversation with and encrypt Facebook messages.
Step 5: Choose the device you are using as the default device.
Messages sent from this device will be end-to-end encrypted, meaning only the sender and recipient can read these messages.
If you are still concerned about security and fear that others may read your messages, you can take an additional step to set up self-destructing messages. By doing this, all messages will automatically delete after a specified time once the recipient has read them.
To set this option, choose Set Timer and set the time range from 5 seconds to 24 hours for messages to self-destruct.
