2. Vocabulary on Cinema
- A blockbuster /ˈblɒkˌbʌstər/ [n] : Phim bom tấn (movie that is made with a large budget and big stars)
Eg. The Avengers movie was a blockbuster. You have to go see it! (Biệt đội siêu anh hùng là một bộ phim bom tấn. Bạn phải xem nó!)
- Low-budget film [n]: phim kinh phí thấp (refer to motion pictures/movies that are not funded well from a major investor)
Eg. Some low-budget films are successfull. (Một số phim kinh phí thấp đã thành công.)
- Special effect [n]: hiệu ứng (an unusual piece of action in a film, or an entertainment on a stage, created by using particular equipment)
Eg. Special effect is one of important things making a movie success. (Hiệu ứng là một trong những yếu tố giúp bộ phim thành công.)
- Movie buff/ Film buff [n]: người am hiểu về phim ảnh (refers to a person who is not only interested about the film but also knowledgeable)
Eg. If you want some movie recommendation, it is better to ask Mary as she is a movie buff. (Nếu bạn muốn có một số gợi ý về phim, tốt hơn là hỏi Mary vì cô ấy là một người am hiểu về phim ảnh)
- Premiere
[n]: buổi công chiếu phim (the debut; the first public appearance of the film)
Eg. The premiere of the movie “Doctor Strange” was very well-praised by the audience. (Buổi ra mắt bộ phim “Doctor Strange” được khán giả ủng hộ rất nhiệt tình.)
- Soundtrack/ Film score/Background music [n]: Nhạc phim (the sounds, especially the music, of a film, or a separate recording of this)
Eg. The best thing about this movie is its soundtrack, it completely captures the mood of the actors. (Điều tuyệt vời nhất của bộ phim nàynày là nhạc phim của nó, nó hoàn toàn nắm bắt được tâm trạng của các diễn viên.)
- Subtitle [n]: Phụ đề (the caption that can be seen at the bottom of the screen to cater international audiences)
Eg. When I watch movies at the cinema, I rely on subtitles so that I can fully understand. (Khi xem phim ở rạp, tôi dựa vào phụ đề để có thể hiểu hết được.)
- Leading role/the central character [n] – referred to as the hero or protagonist, is usually the most important character in the story: vai chính
Eg. My best friend has been cast in a leading role of the film. (Bạn thân của tôi được chọn vào vai chính trong bộ phim.)
- Visual effect / Sound effect [n] – is the process by which imagery is created or manipulated outside the context of a live-action shot in film: hiệu ứng hình ảnh, âm thanh
- Supporting role [n] – a fairly important but not leading part: vai phụ
Eg.Helly won the best supporting actor prize. Helly đã đoạt giải Nữ diễn viên phụ xuất sắc nhất
- A box office hit [n] – a very successful film or play that earns a lot of money: phim thành công về mặt doanh thu
Eg.The film was a box office hit, grossing $ 15, 765, 000 domestically.

- A classic [n] – film that is well known and of a high standard and lasting value: phim chất lượng cao
