Today I’d like to discuss an inspiring movie I watched a few months ago. In February, while in quarantine alone after testing positive for Covid, I found myself with plenty of time to spare. Despite being fully vaccinated, I had to stay home for at least two weeks. Initially, it was tough, but then I stumbled upon a new pastime: watching some of the greatest films ever made. It turned out to be an incredibly rewarding experience.
I compiled a list of movies to watch and decided to start with Shawshank Redemption, which had the highest rating. I couldn't resist recommending it to friends and family afterward. It falls under the Crime Fiction genre, which I believe deserves more attention.
The film was adapted from a short story by Stephen King, renowned for his horror fiction. Andy Dufresne, the main character who maintains his innocence in the murders of his wife and her lover, spends twenty years in Shawshank Prison with fellow inmate Ellis 'Red.'
Shawshank Redemption became one of the most popular rental films after receiving numerous Academy Award nominations, glowing reviews, and positive word of mouth from both men and women. I couldn't understand why it wasn't a hit upon its release.
I took away many lessons from the movie. Shawshank Redemption, in many ways, illustrated the power of hope, its central theme. Having hope can help a person achieve what might seem impossible. Even when the odds are against us, we must never lose hope. Maintaining hope in the face of difficulties will lead to a brighter tomorrow. With that lesson in mind, I feel better equipped to handle any challenges life throws my way.
