I. Sample response for the topic of Advertising in IELTS Speaking Part 1
1. What types of advertisements do you watch?
I typically watch advertisements that Youtube and TV present to me. Those that stick in my memory the most are often related to cars or cosmetics. Additionally, there are also advertisements for household appliances, food products, toys, and more. Essentially, anything can be advertised in today's world.
2. Where do you encounter advertisements?
Advertisements come in various forms and can be encountered virtually everywhere. When out on the streets, you can see posters and banners advertising the latest shows on building walls, LED screens, and billboards displaying luxury handbags and accessories. Whether you're watching TV or browsing websites like Facebook, you'll come across images and videos featuring catchy product slogans. Essentially, advertisements have become deeply embedded in all aspects of our lives.
3. Have you ever made a purchase because of an advertisement?
I'm somewhat of a skeptic, so I often question the authenticity and credibility of advertisements. Occasionally, though, I've bought products because they were recommended by someone I admire or trust. It's happened only once or twice, really, and only when my budget allows it.
4. Do you watch advertisements from start to finish?
If they're truly engaging, I'll watch them without skipping. However, to be frank, around 80% of the ads I come across these days are either predictable or, forgive me for saying this, somewhat dull, and they interfere when I'm trying to enjoy music or watch something else. So, I simply endure them for the mandatory 5-10 seconds.
