This week, the romance between Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has dominated pop culture. But Swift’s appearance at the Chiefs' game against the Chicago Bears on Sunday, September 24, revealed more than just their connection.
It also brought attention to Swift’s stadium snacks. A fan account @tswifterastour shared a photo of the singer with a plate that appeared to have a boneless chicken wing and two sauces. “Taylor Swift was eating a piece of chicken with ketchup and seemingly ranch!” the caption read.
The term ketchup and seemingly ranch quickly became a meme, with everyone from Garfield and Mrs. Met to NYX Cosmetics joining in. Heinz even launched a limited-edition version of their existing ketchup-ranch blend, branded with the “Ketchup and Seemingly Ranch” label.
But in reality, it didn’t. Tyler O’Day, social media manager for the Empire State Building, clarified on Twitter that the building had simply been lit like that at some point in the past. When another user asked him if he kept “every combo of lights archived somewhere,” O’Day responded, “Of course.”
Just to clarify, the photo showing the Empire State Building at night was shared at 12:45 p.m. on September 27. The night before, the building had been lit in red, yellow, and blue to commemorate the 45th season of Survivor. And on the evening of September 27, it was illuminated in red, green, yellow, and blue to celebrate 25 years of Harry Potter.
That said, the landmark has indeed partnered with Swift in the past. In August 2014, she hosted a livestream from the Empire State Building’s VIP observatory to announce her upcoming album, 1989, and premiere the video for its debut single, “Shake It Off.”
“To be honest, it’s a little scary up here,” she said.
