Google has improved the integration of Lens in the Photos app on Android by adding an information page that appears when you swipe up on an image. Now, Lens is activated by opening an image and selecting the corresponding icon at the bottom toolbar. It appears alongside sharing, editing, and deleting image functions.
Users can now use Google Lens more easily through Google Photos.
If Google Lens detects text in your image, it will highlight the text in blue, as before. Pressing on the selected text allows you to translate, copy text to another app, read text aloud, or even transfer the text to a PC connected to your Google account. All of these options were previously available in the dedicated Google Lens app, but the new Google Photos interface will display these choices as icons at the bottom of the screen for easier selection.
Photos for Android now features a new 'Search inside this photo' section beneath the date/time information. This tab only appears when Google Lens detects text in the image or screenshot.
Encountering a thumbnail with the prompt 'Select text in image' and 'Google Lens', along with four available options: Copy text, search, listen, and translate. Clicking on any option promptly activates Lens in that mode.
Google Lens proves to be incredibly useful for optical character recognition (OCR) and time-saving. However, most people are unaware of its presence in Google Photos, and this change emphasizes its existence.
Easy access to the Google Lens tool has been expanded in Google Photos version 5.33 on Android, with no information yet on its availability on the iOS platform.
