WHAT IS FPS?
FPS stands for Frames Per Second - the number of frames displayed per second, which is a measure of how many images the graphics processing unit (GPU) can render and display per second on your screen. Simply put, FPS is the quality of how many images the graphics card can render in 1 second displayed on the screen.
In this manner, the higher the FPS, the more smoothly you'll perceive images unfolding on your screen. Conversely, if the FPS is low, say 1 FPS, you'd only see one image per second. For high-speed shooting games like Counter-Strike, too low FPS would be catastrophic as you wouldn't be able to fully track your opponent's actions within a second.
Typically, a game should maintain a minimum of around 30 FPS, with the optimal being 60 FPS for most games, but the greatest advantage lies in 120 FPS for shooting games. A normal human eye can only capture all motion images at around 60 FPS, but with rigorous training, it's possible to process images at 120 FPS. These are usually professional gamers who have honed extremely adept eyes.
If you aspire to become a professional gamer or simply desire smoother game graphics while playing Counter-Strike, you'd want to explore ways to increase FPS. But first, let's go through some prerequisites to boost FPS while playing Counter-Strike.
PRE-REQUISITES
1. Computer Configuration:
As mentioned earlier, FPS is the number of images rendered by the GPU, so the first requirement is your computer configuration. You need to meet at least the minimum requirements to play Counter-Strike. Since Counter-Strike has been around for a while now, it's rare to find PCs that don't meet the minimum requirements, but they do exist. The minimum requirements to play Counter-Strike are as follows:
- Minimum Configuration:
Processor (CPU): Intel Core 2 Duo Processor at least 1.8GHz or higher.
RAM: 2 GB
Operating System: Windows XP (SP2), Windows Vista, Windows 7, or later.
Graphics Processing Unit (GPU): Ati 2600 and Geforce 8800 or equivalent with a minimum of 512MB memory.
Free Memory: 3 GB
- Recommended Configuration:
Processor (CPU): Intel Core i5 at least 2.4GHz or higher.
RAM: 4 GB
Operating System: Windows XP (SP2), Windows Vista, Windows 7, or later.
Graphics Processing Unit (GPU): Ati 5850 and Geforce 460 or equivalent with a minimum of 768MB memory.
Free Memory: 3 GB
You don't necessarily need to strive for the recommended configuration, but if you can achieve it, all the better.
2. Network Connection Speed
It's advisable to use a minimum 4Mbps package for the best experience, avoiding network lag and weak connections. If possible, higher packages are preferred. Wi-Fi is commonly used nowadays, but Wi-Fi connections often don't guarantee transmission speeds like using a LAN cable. Therefore, except in unavoidable circumstances, investing in a LAN cable for direct Internet connection via the LAN port, even when using a laptop to play Counter-Strike, is recommended. LAN cables are not expensive nowadays, costing only about 40,000 - 50,000 VND for a 30m length.
3. Have Counter-Strike installed and functioning normally on your computer
