1. How to Record Screen Videos with Sound on Windows

Method 1: Screen Recording with Xbox Game Bar

Follow the steps below to record sound on Windows 10 using Xbox Game Bar:

Step 1: First, click on Start, then find and click on Settings (the gear icon) to open the app.

Step 2: On the window displayed on the screen, find and click on Gaming.

Step 3: In the Xbox Game Bar section, locate and activate the option Enable Xbox Game Bar for Things Like Recording Game Clips, Chatting With Friends, and Receiving Game Invites.

In the Captures section, you can adjust the location for saving videos and screenshots, enable video recording in background mode, enable video recording during screen presentation, set the maximum video recording time, and adjust audio settings and video quality.

Step 4: Additionally, on the Windows 10 Gaming Settings window, you can find and select the Captures option to adjust screen recording options on Xbox Game Bar.

Step 5: Press Windows + G to open the Xbox Game Bar. You'll see a notification on the screen, click Yes to continue.
Step 6: Now, at the top corner of your screen, you'll spot the Xbox Game Bar icon, click on it to display and access its tools.

Here, locate and click on the Capture tool, it's the webcam icon as shown below.

Step 7:

Click on the Start Recording button to initiate screen video recording. To pause the recording, click on Stop. Alternatively, you can use the key combination Windows + Alt + A to start and stop recording. However, this key combination is only available if you've activated the Xbox Game Bar.

Note: The video recording feature on Game Bar only supports gaming apps and some non-gaming apps, it doesn't support screen capture and File Explorer.

Step 8: All screen videos recorded with Xbox Game Bar are saved in MP4 format and stored in the Videos => Captures folder.

2. How to record screen video with sound on macOS

Method 1: Using Built-in Screen Recorder

On macOS Catalina and later versions, Apple has added a feature allowing users to take screenshots and record screen videos.

Follow the steps below:

Step 1: Press Shift + Command + 5 to open the screen capture toolbar.
Step 2: Now, on your screen, you'll see a series of tools, including: 3 screen capture tools on the left corner and 2 screen recording tools in the middle, along with Options and Capture (or Record) buttons.

Click on the Record Entire Screen button (to record the entire screen) on the left or the Selected Portion button (to record a selected area) on the right as shown in the image below, then click on the Record button to start recording the screen.

Step 3: Once the process is complete, click on the Stop Recording button located at the top corner of the menu bar as shown below, or press the key combination Command + Control + Esc to end the recording.

By default, the video will be saved on the desktop screen.

Method 2: Using QuickTime Player

On macOS Mojave and earlier versions, you can use QuickTime Player to record computer screen with sound. This tool is also integrated into macOS Catalina and Big Sur.

Step 1: Open QuickTime Player from Launchpad. If QuickTime Player doesn't appear, you can check in the Other folder.

Step 2: Next, click on File in the menu bar.
Step 3: From the dropdown menu, locate and click on the option New Screen Recording.

Step 4: A notification will appear on the screen, requesting permission to record the computer screen. Click on Open System Preferences, find and check the box next to QuickTime Player option. Then proceed to close and reopen QuickTime Player to apply the changes.

Step 5: Next, click on File =>New Screen Recording.
Step 6: Now, on the screen, a series of tools will appear: among them, 3 screen capture tools on the left side, and in the middle, 2 screen recording tools. Click on Options to display additional options or remove pointers, use the built-in microphone, and specify the location to save the video.

Step 7: Click on the Record Entire Screen button (to record the entire screen) on the left or the Selected Portion button (to record a selected area) on the right as shown below, then click on the Record button to start recording the screen.

Step 8: Once the process is complete, navigate to the menu bar, find and click on the Stop Recording button as shown below, or alternatively press the assigned icon (if Mac is equipped with Touch Bar).

Step 9: Click on File =>Save, choose the location, name the video, then click on Save to save the video.
