Hands-on with Lenovo Legion Slim 5i Gen 8 featuring a Slim and Lightweight Design, Maintaining Gaming Quality
Right from the name, many of you may have guessed that the Legion Slim 5i Gen 8 would have a slim and lightweight design, right? Specifically, the device measures 19.7-25.2 x 359.7 x 260.3 mm for the GPU RTX 4060/4070 version and 19.7-21.9 x 359.7 x 260.3 mm for the RTX 4050 version. The weight of the device is around 2.3 kg. Although it's not the thinnest and lightest, it's still very good for a 16-inch gaming laptop.

Legion Slim 5i Gen 8 features a square, masculine, and powerful overall look. The machine's edges are flat, and the corners have very subtle curves. There aren't many chamfer effects on the bottom edge, so the device maintains a certain ruggedness.

The front face of Legion Slim 5i Gen 8 has a minimalist design, familiar to those who have used Lenovo laptops before. On the right side is the Lenovo logo, while on the left is the large Legion logo. The remaining surface is finished in a matte texture, looking very sleek and reminiscent of an ultrabook rather than a gaming laptop.

On the left side of Legion Slim 5i Gen 8, you'll find the USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port (DisplayPort 1.4, 140 W power delivery) and another USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port (DisplayPort 1.4). Meanwhile, on the right side, there's a 4-in-1 SD card reader.

The rear of Legion Slim 5i Gen 8 is packed with more connectivity ports, including an Ethernet port (RJ45), a USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 port (5V2A always-on), another USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 port, and an HDMI 2.1 port. The connectivity ports of Legion Slim 5i Gen 8 are noted for their diversity and ability to meet users' connectivity needs. Especially, the Ethernet port ensures a more stable network connection for gaming.

The rear area is where Legion Slim 5i Gen 8's gaming essence shines brightest with its large cooling vent system. Rear-facing ports help free up space on the right side, ensuring no interference with the user's mouse operation during gaming.

Legion Slim 5i Gen 8's hinge is of moderate size and blends harmoniously with the overall device. This hinge also has the ability to expand up to 180 degrees, allowing you to easily share content with someone opposite. The operation of opening/closing the machine is also very smooth.
Lenovo Legion Slim 5i Gen 8 keyboard and display for an impressive experience
Legion Slim 5i Gen 8 is equipped with a full-size keyboard system including a numeric keypad and RGB backlighting. The key design, layout, and spacing are all similar to the company's other products, making it easy for users to get acquainted.

The touchpad is of moderate size, comfortable for multitouch operations. However, since gamers often use an external mouse for speed and flexibility, we won't focus too much on this aspect.

The screen of Legion Slim 5i Gen 8 comes in two options with the highest version using a 16-inch IPS panel, WQXGA resolution (2,560 x 1,600 pixels). Additionally, this screen boasts a refresh rate of 165 Hz, 100% sRGB, and brightness of 350 nits.

These specifications meet gamers' needs and users' graphic design tasks with a wide working space, high detail, realistic colors, fast and accurate response rates.
