What is the importance of IELTS in studying abroad?
Currently, IELTS is considered a 'passport' for young people wishing to travel to promising lands. This is an internationally recognized English proficiency certificate required by many high schools and universities worldwide for study abroad.

1. General minimum IELTS score requirements for studying abroad
Many young people often worry about how many IELTS scores they need to feel secure with their study abroad applications. In reality, each country and each institution has its own regulations regarding the minimum IELTS score. As known, the IELTS certificate evaluates English proficiency with 4 comprehensive skills. It requires you to meet the basic standards to study in programs using different languages.
Accordingly, the basic score that learners must achieve to participate in university courses is IELTS 4.5. This figure means that you must have a basic understanding of the knowledge system that you will study later. If your band score is below 4.5, you cannot study abroad under international education programs.
2. Is an IELTS score of 4.5 sufficient for studying abroad?
However, to keep up with the study progress and achieve good results when studying abroad, an IELTS score of 4.5 is still insufficient. Currently, the recommended IELTS score for studying abroad ranges from IELTS 6.0 to 6.5. This score range assesses your basic foundation in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. How much IELTS is needed for studying abroad in the USA?
For young people dreaming of studying in the USA, English proficiency is a mandatory factor in their application. Previously, only TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) could be taken, but now over 3,400 schools in the USA accept IELTS scores. In the land of the stars and stripes, there is no universal minimum score requirement for the IELTS test. The regulations on score requirements depend entirely on the policies of each school. So how much IELTS is needed for studying in the USA to put your mind at ease?
1. High School Level Study Abroad
Regarding high school education programs in the USA, students are not required to have an IELTS score. Instead, you must take the SLEP (The Secondary Level English Proficiency) test. The required score is IELTS 4.5+, although some schools may slightly differ with a 4.5 score. 3. Postgraduate Study Abroad
What is the minimum IELTS score required for studying postgraduate programs in the USA? The minimum IELTS scores vary not only among universities but also across different fields of study. For example, the University of California - Los Angeles (UCLA) requires a minimum IELTS score of 7.0. However, for Master's students in the Social Sciences field, the IELTS band score requirement increases to 7.5, and for Biological Engineering, it rises to 8.0.
Furthermore, note that while some universities accept IELTS scores, certain programs within those universities do not recognize this international English certificate. At the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, the Master's program does not accept IELTS scores but acknowledges TOEFL or PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English Academic) certificates instead.
In general, for undergraduate and postgraduate programs at top 200 universities in the USA, the typical IELTS score required ranges from IELTS 6.0 to 7.0. Specifically, if the university has high competition rates, the score increases to IELTS 7.5. The IELTS score needed for studying abroad completely depends on the university you choose to apply to!
What are the IELTS requirements for studying in Australia?
Australia uses English as its official language. Are you planning to study abroad in this beautiful country? This means you'll need to use English throughout your study and life in Australia. Hence, the IELTS certificate is a mandatory requirement for schools and embassies to assess your language proficiency. So, how much IELTS score is needed for studying in Australia?
Currently, all secondary schools, colleges, and universities in Australia use IELTS as the primary standard. Each university and each field of study will have specific requirements for IELTS scores. Therefore, you need to thoroughly research when preparing your study abroad application.
1. For secondary education
The minimum IELTS score required for students to qualify for studying abroad ranges from IELTS 5.0 to 5.5.
2. For college or university preparatory programs

For example, UNSW Law School requires no skill below 6.0 and a minimum overall score of 6.5.
