Today, Mytour will guide you on how to appoint someone as an administrator (admin) in a Skype chat group. Only the current admin has the authority to grant admin privileges to another member.
Steps
Skype on Windows 10

Launch Skype. You can do this by double-clicking on the Start menu (Windows icon at the bottom-left corner of the screen) and selecting Skype from the list of applications.
- If you are not logged in, enter your Skype account details and click Sign In.

Select the chat group under the “Recent Conversations” heading on the left panel of Skype.
- If no groups appear in this section, you can search using the bar at the top of the Skype window.

Click on the recipient list at the top of the conversation window. A list of group members will appear.

Choose the person you want to assign as admin. Their profile will open.

Locate the user’s Skype username. The username will be listed below the word “Skype” on the right side of their profile. Make sure to note this accurately, as you’ll need it later.

Return to the chat group. You can click the back arrow at the top-left corner of the user’s profile.

Type /setrole <username> MASTER. Replace “<username>” with the Skype username of the new admin.

Press ↵ Enter. The selected person will now become the group admin.
- You can view the list of admins by clicking the group name at the top of the conversation.
- To add another admin, repeat this process with the Skype username of another group member.
Classic Skype on macOS and Windows 8.1

Launch Skype. The app is blue with a white “S” logo. On Windows, you can find it in the Start menu. On Mac, check the Dock (usually at the bottom of the screen) or the Applications folder.
- If you’re not logged in, enter your Skype account details and click Sign In.

Click on Recent in the left panel.

Select the group. The list of chat groups will appear in the left panel.

Click on the recipient list. This option is located at the top of the conversation, just below the group name and member count. A list of all group members will be displayed.

Right-click on the person you want to assign as admin. If your computer doesn’t have a right-click button, hold the Ctrl key and left-click instead.

Click on View Profile.

Right-click on their Skype username. This will be located next to the word “Skype” on their profile.

Click on . The username of the selected person has been copied to your clipboard.

Close the profile window. Click the X in the top-right corner of the profile to return to the group chat.

Type /setrole <username> MASTER. Replace “<username>” with the Skype username of the new admin. Here’s how:
- Type /setrole and press the spacebar.
- Press Ctrl+V (Windows) or ⌘ Cmd+V (macOS) to paste the username, then press the spacebar.
- Type MASTER.

Press ↵ Enter (Windows) or ⏎ Return (macOS). The selected user will now become the group admin.
- Click the group name at the top of the conversation to view the list of all admins.
- To add another admin, repeat this process with the Skype username of another group member.
Skype on the web

Visit https://web.skype.com using your web browser. You can use any modern web browser to access Skype, such as Safari, Chrome, or Firefox.
- If the Skype login screen appears, enter your Skype username, click Next, then type your password. Finally, click Sign In.

Select the group. The list of groups will appear in the left panel of Skype. If the panel is empty, click Search Skype and enter the group name. You can then select the group from the search results.

Click on the group name at the top. A list of current group members will appear.

Click on the name of the person you want to add. A menu will pop up.

Choose View Profile.

the Skype username. This name appears below the word “Skype” near the middle of the profile. To copy, use your mouse or trackpad to highlight the name, then press Ctrl+C (Windows) or ⌘ Cmd+C (macOS).

Type /setrole <username> MASTER. Replace “<username>” with the Skype username of the new admin. Here’s how:
- Type /setrole and press the spacebar.
- Press Ctrl+V (Windows) or ⌘ Cmd+V (macOS) to paste the username, then press the spacebar.
- Type MASTER.
