In recent updates, META has heavily emphasized the “end-to-end encryption” feature for Messenger conversations. This top-tier security feature ensures users can communicate with peace of mind, minimizing the risk of message leaks and preventing malicious actors from exploiting personal information on the world’s leading messaging and calling platform.
End-to-end encryption secures messages by encoding all content, ensuring only devices with decryption capabilities can access old messages. If you haven’t decrypted the messages, you won’t be able to view previous conversations. To decrypt messages on Messenger, simply enter the correct PIN to restore your entire message history.
Facebook Messenger’s PIN-based security currently uses a 6-digit numeric code set by the user. During usage, Messenger allows users to change their PIN to enhance security, prevent hacking, and avoid losing access to message recovery.
II. How to Change the Recovery PIN for Messenger Messages
Many users often forget their Messenger recovery PIN because they don’t frequently log in across multiple devices. Step 1: Open the Messenger app, select the Options (1) tab, and choose Settings (2) to view available account security features.
Step 2: In the Settings window, select Privacy & Safety ➞ End-to-End Encrypted Chat.
Step 3: Next, select Reset PIN and enter the new PIN twice to update your Messenger PIN.
2. How to Change the Recovery PIN for Messenger Messages on Desktop
On the Facebook desktop platform, you can quickly and easily change your recovery PIN. To update your Messenger recovery PIN, follow these steps:
Step 1: Access the Facebook Messenger homepage and click on the Options (1) icon.
Step 2: Next, select Privacy & Safety to view security settings.
Step 3: Continue by choosing End-to-End Encrypted Chat.
Step 4: Select Secure Storage to configure the backup and message recovery feature on Messenger.
Step 5: Within the Secure Storage settings, choose Reset PIN to proceed with changing the recovery PIN for Messenger messages.
Note: When changing the recovery PIN for Messenger messages, you do not need to enter the previously set old PIN.
Step 6: Finally, enter the new PIN twice to update your Messenger PIN. Once completed, use this new PIN on a new device to restore your previous messages.
