This article provides instructions on how to check for system software updates and updates for apps installed on your Android device.
Steps to Follow
Check for System Updates
Scroll to the bottom of the menu and tap on About device (Device Information). This option might appear as About phone (Phone Information) or About tablet (Tablet Information) depending on your device. If you're using a Samsung Galaxy with Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) or later, tap Software updates (Software Updates) or System updates (System Updates).
- If you can't find 'About device', tap System (System) and then Advanced (Advanced). This step applies to most Google Pixel phones.
Tap on System update (System Update). You might also see options like Software update (Software Update) or Download updates manually (Manually Download Updates).
- If you see the message “The latest updates have already been installed” (Latest updates already installed), this means there are no available updates.
Tap on Check for update (Check for Update). This option might be named differently depending on the device.
- Tap OK when prompted for confirmation.
Tap on Download (Download) or Yes (Yes) when an update is available. The update will begin downloading to your device. It is recommended to download the update while connected to a wireless network due to its large file size.
- If no updates are available, try again later.
Tap on Install Now (Install Now) after the update has finished downloading. You will need to wait a while before the installation option appears, as the update download process completes.
Charge your device. Ensure that your device has at least 50% battery before starting the software update process, and it’s best to keep it charging during the update.
Wait for the device to update. Your Android device will reboot and begin the update process. This will take about 20-30 minutes to complete.
Check for App Updates
Open the Play Store app. This app is listed under Apps. Its icon looks like a shopping bag with the Google Play logo at the top.
Tap the ☰ button. You will find this option at the top left corner.
Tap on My apps & games (My Apps & Games). This is the option at the top of the menu.

Sử dụng Smart Switch cho thiết bị Samsung
Open the browser on your computer. If you have a Samsung device, you can use Samsung's Smart Switch program to check for and install updates. This program replaces the older Samsung Kies device management software.
Visit the Smart Switch page. You can access it at: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/app/smart-switch.
Click the link Download on the Mac App Store or Get it on Windows.
Run the setup program you just downloaded.
Follow the on-screen instructions to install Smart Switch.
Connect your Samsung device to the computer.
Click the Update button in Smart Switch. This button will appear below the name of the connected device when an update is available.
- The update button will not be visible if no update is available. If you believe there is an update, it may be under processing by the provider, and the update will be released later.
Click the Update button in the open window. You will see the version that requires updating.
Click the OK button to start the update. Your device will begin updating immediately. Do not press any buttons or disconnect the device until the update is finished.
Advice
- Providers typically send notifications when a new update is available. Usually, you will need to wait a bit after the update is released before you can install it on your device.
