A comprehensive step-by-step guide to completely uninstalling the Riot Games client.
Have you finished your gaming session with League of Legends, Legends of Runeterra, or Valorant and wish to uninstall the game launcher? While uninstalling is straightforward on Mac, you may encounter residual Riot files on a Windows PC. This guide walks you through the process of completely uninstalling the Riot game client and Vanguard on a Windows 10 or 11 computer.
Removing Riot Games from Your PC
Access the Add or remove programs window and locate Riot Vanguard. Choose Uninstall and reboot your computer. If any Riot files persist, navigate to the Riot Games folders in (C:) or (D:), AppData > Local, and Start Menu > Programs. Empty the recycle bin and restart your PC.
Steps
Uninstall using system settings. You might consider uninstalling the Riot client through your system settings. Here's how:
- Go to the Start menu and search for 'add or remove programs'. Select the first option.
- Locate 'Riot Vanguard' from the list.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Afterward, empty your recycle bin and reboot your system.
- Return to the Start menu and search for 'Riot'. If you see any Riot apps or folders, proceed to the next step.
Locate the 'Riot Games' directory. Typically, you'll find this in your C:/ or D:/ drive, unless you specified a specific folder during installation.
- To find its whereabouts, follow these steps:
- Right-click on the Riot Client shortcut on your desktop (or locate the icon in your App Library).
- Choose Open file location.
- This will take you to the folder containing the Resources and UX folders.
- In the top navigation bar, click on Riot Games to access this directory.
- Inside, you should find the Riot Client folder.
- In the top navigation bar, click on (C:), (D:), or the name of your custom folder to navigate there.
- This directory should house the Riot Games folder.
Right-click on the 'Riot Games' directory. This action will prompt a pop-up menu.

To access the Run dialog, press ⊞ Win+R.
Enter appdata into the field and click OK.
Access the 'Local' directory. You'll find a list of applications arranged alphabetically. If it's not sorted, click on the Name section to organize it.
Right-click on the 'Riot Games' directory. This folder resides in AppData > Local. A context menu will appear.

Press ⊞ Win and enter 'Riot Client'. Look for Riot Client in the search suggestions of the Start menu.
Click Open file location. You'll find this option in the right panel of the search suggestions. It will open the Riot Games folder.
Go to the top navigation bar and select Programs. This action will take you back to the previous folder.
Right-click on the 'Riot Games' folder. This folder is located in Start Menu > Programs.

Clear your Recycle Bin and reboot your computer. Right-click on the Recycle Bin icon on your desktop and select Empty Recycle Bin. Restart your computer by pressing the Win key, clicking the Power icon, and choosing Restart.
