Today, Mytour will guide you through the process of inserting the statistical x-bar symbol into your Microsoft Word document.
Steps
On Windows

Launch Microsoft Word. You can locate the application in the Microsoft Office section of the Start menu.

Click on Insert at the top of the screen.

Click on Equation. This option, marked by a pi symbol, is located in the upper-right corner of the toolbar.

Type x into the equation box.

Highlight the letter "x" in the equation box. Click and drag your mouse over the "x" to select it.

Click on Accent. This option, represented by a lowercase "a" with two dots above it, is found in the toolbar at the upper-right corner of the screen. A menu of accent characters will appear.

Scroll down and click on the first box under the “Overbars and Underbars” section. This option features a square with a horizontal line above it. The line will appear over the letter “x,” creating the x-bar symbol.
On macOS

Open Word. The app has a blue icon with a white “W” inside. You can typically find it in the Dock or the Applications menu.

Type x where you want the x-bar symbol to appear. You can input it anywhere in the document.

Press Ctrl+⌘ Command+Space. The Character Viewer window will open.

Type combining overline into the Search bar at the top of the Character Viewer window. A black horizontal line will appear just below the search bar. This is the combining overline option.

Click on the option you just selected. The letter “x” will transform into the x-bar symbol.
- Next time you open the Character Viewer, you can quickly find the combining overline option by clicking on the “Recently Used” section at the top of the left panel.
