When you join Facebook, you'll be presented with various options to find your friends. If your friends aren't using Facebook, you can send them a personal invitation to join and become your friend on the platform. Once you connect with your friends, you can interact with them via your personal Facebook page. However, some people choose not to allow others to search for them on Facebook, so you may not be able to find them. Follow the steps below to connect with your friends on Facebook.
Steps
Using the Facebook Search Bar

Move to the Facebook search bar. You can find the search bar at the top-left corner of your homepage. The Facebook search bar is designed to help you find someone, even if you don't know their name.
- Search results appear based on the information you have entered on your personal profile.

Type the name of the person you are looking for in the search bar. As you start typing, Facebook will suggest relevant search results based on your personal information. Facebook often suggests people who live in the same city or country, or who attended the same school or work at the same place.

Add more relevant information. If you can't find your friend by their name, try adding their city, school, or workplace. This will help narrow down the search results.

Type the person's email address in the search bar. If you know your friend's email address, enter it directly into the search bar.

Send a friend request. Once you find your friend's profile, click on it, go to their page, and click the 'Add Friend' button at the top to send a friend request.
Sync Email Contacts with Facebook

Click the 'Find Friends' button at the top right corner of your Facebook page. The page will refresh, and Facebook will show you a 'People You May Know' list based on your personal information.

Go to the 'Add Personal Contacts' section. You will find this box at the right side of the screen. The email address associated with your Facebook account will be displayed here.

Import your email contacts. Follow the instructions provided by Facebook to import contacts from the email account of your choice. However, the steps may vary depending on the email provider.

Browse through the people Facebook recommends. Facebook will search for friends based on your email address and the contacts transferred from your email account.
Invite Friends to Join Facebook

Click on the 'Find Friends' button. This button is located at the top-right corner of your Facebook page. If you can't find the person you're looking for using the methods above, it’s possible they don’t have a Facebook account.

Look for the 'Invite Your Friends' box. This box is located at the bottom-right corner, just below the 'Add Personal Contacts' section. Here, you can use the search bar to input phone numbers or email addresses of people you want to invite to Facebook.

Talk to them directly. If you can't find someone on Facebook and don’t have their phone number or email address, the best way to connect is by asking them directly. Let them know you’d be happy to stay in touch on Facebook.
Advice
- Some users choose to set their privacy settings to hide their profile, so you won’t be able to find them on Facebook.
- Additionally, users may adjust their privacy settings to prevent being found through regular search methods. For example, only mutual friends might be able to find them.
- If you find your friend on Facebook but can't see the 'Add Friend' button, it means they’ve adjusted their privacy settings to block friend requests from anyone. You would need to become friends with one of their connections before you can send a request. If that happens, try sending them a message.
- If you’re trying to reconnect with an old friend, introduce yourself on their wall or send a message before sending a friend request. They may not remember who you are, and as a result, they might not accept your friend request.
- When you log in to verify your IM/email account, Facebook does not store your password.
Warning
- Never share your Facebook account details with anyone.
- Protect your privacy by only adding people on Facebook whom you personally know.
