Is the Zalo app on your phone taking up too much storage, leaving no room for other content? This issue is easily solvable by freeing up space in Zalo and reducing its storage usage. Let’s explore how to do that!

I. What content does Zalo store? Can it be deleted?
When you check the storage management section on your phone, you’ll notice that Zalo occupies a significant amount of space. The app contains several components, including:
- Initial app installation size: This is the essential data that allows the Zalo app to operate. You cannot delete this data.
- Zalo data: This is the data created as you use Zalo, including messages, images, and files stored on your phone. It ensures the complete privacy of your conversations. This is the storage you can delete if you no longer need it.
II. Check the storage used by Zalo on your phone
To check the storage used by Zalo, tap on Personal >> Data on the phone.

Here, you can view the storage components of Zalo, including Cache; Images, videos, files larger than 5MB; and Chat data. Additionally, you will see a section for Other Data that cannot be deleted.

Note: Please review and consider the important data carefully to avoid mistakenly deleting any unwanted files. Additionally, before proceeding with data deletion, it’s advisable to back up your data so you can restore it later (instructions are provided at the bottom of the article).
III. How to free up space in Zalo and reduce its storage usage on your phone
1. Clear the cache
The cache consists of temporary data generated while using Zalo. Clearing the cache will free up a small amount of space without affecting your messages, photos, etc.
On the Data on the phone screen, simply tap on Clean Cache >> Clean.

2. Delete images, videos, and files larger than 5 MB
Zalo has already filtered images, videos, and large files for you to prioritize removal when freeing up space. Tap on View and Clean in the section for Images, videos, and files larger than 5 MB.

On the next screen, you will see a list of large files stored on your phone. You can view them all or filter by images, videos, or files.
Tap on a file, and you can Open, View the original message, Save to your device, or Delete.

To delete multiple files at once, select the files you want to delete (or Select all), then tap Delete.

3. Delete Chat Data
For chat data, you can choose a specific conversation to delete its content. This will only remove images, videos, or files, without deleting the messages themselves.
Tap on View and Clean. Next, choose a conversation to free up space within.

Similarly, you can go through the files you wish to delete or opt to delete all files stored in that conversation immediately.

IV. How to back up your Zalo data before deletion (optional)
To back up your Zalo data, first tap on Personal >> Settings icon at the top right corner.

Select Backup and restore >> Backup now.

Click Continue.

On this screen, you can choose to add a Google Drive account to back up your photos (if not, your photos will not be backed up).
If you don't want to back up photos, click Skip.

Set a password for your backup copy.

Wait a few minutes for all your data to be backed up. When you need to restore it later, simply return to this screen and click on the three-dot icon above the backup >> Restore.

Freeing up space on Zalo will give you extra room to store more personal data. Thank you for reading this article!
