Merge Multiple PDFs into a Single PDF on Mac OS X
1. Method 1: Use Preview
Preview is the built-in PDF viewer on macOS. Besides opening and viewing files, the software integrates options for users to add signatures and merge multiple PDF files into a single file.
1.1. Follow the steps below to merge multiple PDFs using Preview:
Step 1: Open the PDF file you want to merge in Preview.
Step 2: Click on View => Thumbnails to display thumbnail images of the file.
Step 3: Select the thumbnail image of the PDF file where you want to insert the new file.
Step 4: Choose Edit => Insert => Page from File => Open to insert PDF 2.
Step 5: To save the changes, click on File => Export as PDF.
1.2. To insert and merge specific PDF files:
Step 1: Open the PDF files you want to merge simultaneously.
Step 2: Then, click on View => Thumbnails to activate and display thumbnail images of the files.
Step 3:Hold down the Command key, simultaneously click on the thumbnail images of the PDF files you want to merge, move them to another file, and release the Command key.
Step 4: Drag and drop the thumbnail images of the PDF files to any position on the page.
Step 5: Finally, click on File => Export as PDF to save the changes.
1.3. After merging multiple PDF files into a single document, the next step is to edit the output file:
Step 1: Drag the thumbnail image of the PDF file to any position to rearrange their order.
Step 2: Select the page thumbnail => then choose Tools => Rotate Left / Right to rotate the page.
Step 3: To delete a page, simply choose the page thumbnail => Edit => Delete.
Method 2: Use third-party software to merge multiple PDF files into one file

Step 4: Drag the selected thumbnail images to another PDF file and drop them at any desired location.
Alternatively, another way to insert PDF file 1 into PDF file 2 is by opening one of the files. Then, on the menu bar, find and select File => Insert. Now, you will see PDF file 2 displayed immediately after PDF file 1 on the page.
2.1. To add a blank page or other pages to the current PDF page:
Step 1: Open your PDF file in PDFpen.
Step 2: Click on Edit => Insert Blank Page (this page will appear right after the current PDF page).
Step 3: To insert and merge PDF into another file, simply open both files in PDFpen, find the thumbnail image of the file you want to merge, insert it, then drag and drop it into the other PDF file. That's it.
