How to Mute Sound for Individual Tabs on Chrome, Safari, and Firefox
Chrome Browser
To mute sound for individual tabs on the Chrome browser, simply click on the speaker icon displayed on the tab producing audio. A crossed-out speaker icon will appear on the screen, indicating that the tab's sound has been muted.
Alternatively, right-click on the tab and select
Firefox Browser
To mute sound for individual tabs on the Firefox browser, right-click on the tab you want to mute, and select Mute Tab. Similar to Chrome, a crossed-out speaker icon will appear on the browser tab.
To identify which tabs are playing sound, simply look at the speaker icon. If you prefer, you can mute a tab before being disturbed by left-clicking on the speaker icon to toggle the sound for that tab.
Safari Browser
There are various ways to mute sound for individual tabs on the Safari browser. If the current tab is producing sound, the address bar will display a speaker icon; simply toggle the speaker icon to enable or disable sound for that tab.
You can also right-click on any tab, choose Mute Tab, or left-click on the speaker icon displayed in the top right corner of the tab.
Microsoft Edge Browser
Microsoft Edge browser also displays a speaker icon on the browser tab when it's playing audio. Unfortunately, there is currently no way to mute sound for all tabs within the Edge browser.
To mute sound for individual tabs on Edge, simply right-click on the speaker icon in the notification tray at the bottom right corner of the screen, and select Open Volume Mixer.
In the Volume Mixer window, scroll to the right and locate the Edge browser tab currently playing audio. Different browser tabs will be displayed individually here. Simply click on the speaker icon below the website name to mute the sound.
To unmute a tab, simply close and reopen the browser tab, or follow similar steps as above and click on the speaker icon once again.
Currently, this is the only method to mute sound on a PC and mute sound for individual tabs on the Edge browser.
