Today, Mytour will guide you through the process of resetting your Linksys Router using the "Reset" button or the setup webpage.
Steps
Using the Reset Button
Turn off your computer.
Unplug the router from the power source.
Wait for 60 seconds and plug it back in.
Locate the small button labeled Reset. This recessed button is typically found on the back of the router.
Straighten a paperclip. We will use a straightened paperclip to press the Reset button.
Press and hold the "Reset" button. The "Power" light will blink while you hold the Reset button.
- Newer models will reset after 10 seconds. For older models, you may need to hold the "Reset" button for about 30 seconds.
Wait for the "Power" light to stop blinking. When the "Power" light stops flashing and remains steady, the reset process is complete.
Turn on your computer.
Open a web browser to check your Internet connection.
- If there is still no Internet connection, try restarting your computer.
Using the Setup Webpage
Access http://192.168.1.1 using a web browser. You will be directed to the router's setup page.
Enter the username and password in the respective fields. If you haven't changed these details since purchasing the router, the default username is left blank, and the password is admin.
Click on Log In.
Click on the Administration tab. This tab is located at the top of the window.
Click on Factory Defaults at the top of the window.
Click on Restore Factory Defaults. This button is located in the middle of the window.
Wait for the "Power" light to stop blinking. When the "Power" light remains steady, it means the reset process is complete.
Access a website using your web browser to check your Internet connection.
Tips
- Resetting the router will erase all your configurations. If you previously opened ports for gaming, these ports will be blocked. Additionally, wireless network settings and other customizations (including any changed passwords) will also be reset.
- The default settings for most routers are DHCP, NAT, or some other form of automatic IP addressing. You should carefully consider this if you have modified the router settings to assign static IP addresses.
- If the router's IP address changes during the reset process, it may take up to 24 hours for your service provider to assign a new IP address (depending on the provider). During this time, the connection may be limited or unavailable.
- If you continue to experience issues with your Internet connection, contact your local Internet service provider.
Warnings
- Resetting the router should be your last resort. First, try turning the router off and on again, or use a different web browser to test the connection.
