PUK stands for 'Personal Unlock Key,' a unique 8-character code associated with your phone's SIM card. You will need this code if your SIM is locked after entering the wrong password three times. The phone will then require the PUK code to be unlocked, and finding it is usually straightforward.
Steps to Follow
Purpose of the PUK Code

When do you need the PUK code? When you set a PIN for your SIM card as an extra security measure, you’ll need to input the PIN every time you unlock your phone. In other words, the PUK code becomes necessary only if you enter the wrong PIN multiple times.
- A message will appear on the screen stating that the PUK code has locked your SIM. At this point, entering the PUK code will grant you access to your phone.
- If you enter the wrong PUK code more than three times, your SIM card will be locked. After ten or more incorrect attempts, the SIM will be rendered unusable. PUC is an alternative term used for the PUK code on some devices, but fundamentally, they are the same 8-character code.

How does the PUK Code Work? The PUK code is a personal key used to secure your SIM card. Note that each SIM card has a unique PUK code.
There are several reasons why you should know your PUK code; one common scenario is when you switch to a new mobile network provider but want to keep your existing phone number.

SIM Card Packaging Check. If you’ve just purchased a SIM card, look for the PUK code on the packaging. It is often printed on it.

Call Your Network Provider. The PUK code for each SIM card is unique, so you must contact your mobile network provider to obtain it. They may provide it when you first receive your SIM card, but not all providers do.

Check on Your Network Provider's Website. You can log into your account and search for the PUK code on your mobile network provider’s website (most international networks offer this service).
Enter the PUK Code

Enter the PUK code into your phone. Typically, a prompt requesting the PUK code will appear on the screen.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.
- Different phone models may have slightly different steps, but most will notify you that the phone is locked and the PUK code is required.

Enter a New PIN Code. If you’re using the PUK code due to multiple incorrect PIN attempts, you will need to set a new PIN for your SIM card after accessing your phone.
- This will unlock your phone, and you can use it as normal again.
- On some phones, users must dial **05* before entering the PUK code. Afterward, enter the 8-digit PUK code and press enter. Nexus One users need to dial **05*, PUK code, *, PIN, *, new PIN again, and finish with #.
Tips
- Calling your network provider’s customer service is often the fastest way to resolve the issue.
Warning
- Don’t waste time guessing the PUK code. If you enter the wrong code more than 10 times, your SIM card will be permanently locked.
