Today, Mytour will show you how to convert a traditional printer into a wireless printer by connecting it to a router. If this method doesn’t work, you can still connect the printer to a computer with internet access and share it with other computers on the same network.
Steps
Using a USB Printer Connected to the Router

Check the USB port on the back of the router. If your router has a USB port, you can connect the printer to the router using the USB-to-USB cable that comes with the printer.

Purchase a USB to Ethernet adapter if needed. If your router doesn’t have a USB port, you’ll need to buy an adapter and plug one end into the Ethernet port on the router.
- These adapters can be found online on sites like Lazada and Shopee. Alternatively, you can purchase them at tech stores like Phong Vũ.

Place the printer near the router. The printer should be close enough to the router for the USB cable to connect without bending or being too tight.

Connect the printer to the router. Plug one end of the USB cable into the back of the printer and the other end into the router.
- If you are using a USB to Ethernet adapter, first plug the adapter into one of the Ethernet ports on the back of the router.

Plug in the printer. You may need an extension cable or a power strip to complete this step.



Wait for 10 minutes. This will allow the router enough time to detect the signal and set up the printer.
- Internet speed might slow down for a few minutes while the router installs the printer's drivers.




Use a Windows host computer

Connect the printer to the computer you want to use as the host. This method allows you to use an internet-connected computer as a wireless source for the printer. First, use the printer's USB cable to connect the device to the computer.

Power on the printer. Try to choose a power source close to the computer to minimize the risk of the cables being stretched or bent.



Follow the on-screen instructions. If prompted to install new drivers or software, follow the on-screen instructions before proceeding.



Open the Control Panel. Type control panel and click on Control Panel when the option appears at the top of the Start menu.

Click on Network and Internet (Network and Internet). This heading is near the top of the page.
- If you see the options "Small icons" or "Large icons" to the right of the "View by:" heading at the top right of the window, skip this step.

Click on Network and Sharing Center (Network and Sharing Center). This option is located in the center of the page.

Click on Change advanced sharing settings (Change advanced sharing settings). This link is found near the top left of the page.

Check the box labeled "Turn on file and printer sharing" (Enable file and printer sharing). This option is located beneath the "File and printer sharing" heading.

Click on Save changes (Save changes). This option is located at the bottom of the page.

Click on Control Panel. This tab is located at the top left of the window. You will be redirected to the main Control Panel page.

Click on View devices and printers (View devices and printers). This heading is located near the bottom of the page.
- If you are viewing in small or large icon mode, click on Devices and Printers here.

Right-click on the connected printer. A drop-down menu will appear.
- If your mouse lacks a right-click button, try clicking on the right side of the mouse or using a two-finger tap.
- If your computer uses a trackpad instead of a mouse, press down with two fingers on the trackpad, or click the lower right side of the trackpad.

Click on Printer properties (Printer properties). This option is located near the middle of the drop-down menu. A new window will open.

Click on the Sharing tab at the top of the new window.

Share the printer with another computer on the same network. Check the box labeled "Share this printer," click Apply, then select OK at the bottom of the window.




Use a Mac host computer

Connect the printer to the computer you want to designate as the host. This method allows you to use an internet-connected computer as the wireless source for the printer. First, use the printer's USB cable to connect the device to the computer.
- If your Mac doesn't have a traditional USB 3.0 port (rectangular version), you will need to purchase a USB 3.0 to USB-C adapter.

Plug in the printer. Try to choose a power source near the computer to avoid stretching or bending the cable.



Follow the on-screen instructions. If prompted to download a new driver or install any software, follow the on-screen instructions before proceeding.



Click on System Preferences… located in the dropdown menu. The System Preferences window will open.

Click on Sharing within the System Preferences window. Another window will appear.

Check the "Printer Sharing" box. This box is located to the left of the window.

Select the printer. Click on the printer's name located under the "Printers" section in the window.




Advice
- You can also use a "print server" to make a printer wireless. The print server connects to the back of the printer and allows it to receive wireless commands.
