Yes, absolutely. I mean, who doesn’t? I use many platforms like Facebook, Zalo and Instagram. I think the main reason I use social media is to stay in touch with others and to stay updated on what is going on in the world around me.
Are there any drawbacks to using social networking sites?
Sure. The most obvious one, for me, is that it is really time-consuming. I know social networks are supposed to be fun, but the fact is I am wasting my precious time logging in to such sites. And if I cannot manage my time well, my study and work will be badly affected too.
Do you believe it's beneficial to establish friendships online?
Well, I think whether it is labeled good or bad will depend on what people expect from a friend. If we just wish to share your thoughts, online friends can really help. But if you need something like “a friend in need is a friend indeed”, then it may not be a good idea because online friends cannot offer you any emotional support.
What purposes do you typically utilize social networking sites for?
As I mentioned earlier, most of the time I use social media to keep in touch with other people and keep abreast of the times. Apart from that, I also view those platforms as a huge source of entertainment and a convenient way to do some online shopping as well.
Do you feel that some individuals dedicate excessive time to social media?
Have you ever experimented with online dating via social media?
Frankly speaking, yes. I did once when I was in the first year of college. As a girl who loved being delusional about her college love life, I constantly tried to find a boyfriend, you know, my prince charming. After listening to my friends’ advice to look for my significant other on Facebook, I really did give it a try. However, much to my surprise, it was rather a terrible experience that I just want to forget at all cost.
What are the benefits of using social media platforms?
They undeniably possess some merits. Firstly, they facilitate connections among individuals. Without these social platforms, individuals like me, who study far from home, would likely experience profound homesickness, rendering us unable to engage in daily activities without constant tears. Moreover, they offer an open space for people to exchange knowledge, viewpoints, and other content. Engaging in discussions on these platforms has cultivated within me the habit of examining issues from various perspectives.
Which social media platform is most favored by Vietnamese youth?
In my observation, TikTok has become highly popular among the youth compared to other platforms. I attribute its significant growth to its fast-paced nature. As the attention spans of young people have decreased noticeably in recent years, they seek visually appealing content that is concise and doesn't overwhelm them with information. TikTok meets all these criteria. However, I'm not the biggest fan of this platform as I often find myself retaining nothing after hours of scrolling through countless TikTok videos.
