2.1. Sample ideas (Vietnamese)

• Đề bài “Describe a family member” yêu cầu thí sinh miêu tả về một thành viên trong gia đình, trong đó cần những ý:
  •  
    • Mối quan hệ giữa bạn và người đó?
    • Người đó đã có ảnh hưởng như nào lên cuộc sống của bạn?
    • Bây giờ họ làm công việc gì?
    • Và giải thích vì sao bạn lại ngưỡng mộ người đó
• Đối với đề Describe a family member, các bạn có thể chọn miêu tả bất cứ ai, từ bố mẹ đến anh chị em trong nhà, miễn là bạn cảm thấy mình có nhiều ý để nói về người đó nhất là được. 
• Đối với 2 câu hỏi “Người đó đã có ảnh hưởng như nào lên cuộc sống của bạn?” và “Bây giờ họ làm công việc gì?”, bạn có thể kết hợp với việc kể ra tính cách của người đó. Ví dụ như chúng ta muốn miêu tả mẹ mình là một người chăm chỉ, thì bạn nên kéo dài thêm bằng cách kể ra các hoạt động thể hiện sự chăm chỉ, ví dụ như dậy sớm làm việc,...
• Và trong tất cả những tính cách đó, bạn hãy chọn ra 1 đặc điểm đặc biệt để trả lời cho câu hỏi “Và giải thích vì sao bạn lại ngưỡng mộ người đó”, và hãy nói rằng đó là điểm bạn ngưỡng mộ về người đó nhất, và từ đó dẫn đến phần kết bài Describe a family member.

3. Sample Speaking: Describe a relative

Choosing just one family member to talk about is quite challenging because I love all of them dearly. However, the person who comes to mind right now is my mom.

My mom is in her fifties now, but she has remained very youthful despite her wrinkles and gray hair. My mom is extremely industrious and hardworking. She starts her day around 6am every morning, having a quick breakfast before heading to work.

She retired two years ago but has been running her own healthcare center since then, which makes me very proud. Specifically, my mom was a renowned doctor in our city, serving as a chairwoman at a medical center specializing in maternal and child healthcare.

She has always been a role model for me in every aspect, from her work to how she cares for her children. She is not just a mom but also my best friend. I turn to her for advice, and despite the large generation gap, she is incredibly understanding and empathetic.

I am most inspired by her strong-will. From the stories she has shared, she learned to be independent during her teenage years because my grandparents were always up to their ears with farm work. She took care of the house, her siblings, and herself. These challenges shaped her into the inspiring woman she is today, admired by her children, family, and colleagues.

I love my mom and my family endlessly, and I remind myself every day to be as strong as my mom.

1. How have families in your country changed recently?

With our society continuously evolving, many aspects around us are transforming, including family structures. One significant change is the gradual replacement of the traditional extended family model by the nuclear family. In other words, instead of multiple generations living under one roof as in the past, smaller households consisting of just parents and children have become much more prevalent.

The gender-based role division is an outdated norm that is gradually disappearing in our society today. Therefore, I think the specific roles each spouse takes on are less important than the mutual understanding and respect between the partners.

On the other hand, friends often serve as a reflection of our personalities, providing us with emotional support. Nonetheless, I believe that the importance of both family and friends is equal, making any comparison unnecessary.
