2. IELTS Speaking part 2: Describe a person you know who dresses well
Describe someone you know who dresses well. You should say: Who this person is What kinds of clothes this person likes to wear How you know this person And explain why you think this person dresses well |
To start the speaking, candidates should directly introduce someone they know with a fashionable dressing style. They should provide basic information about that person: name, age, current occupation, etc. However, candidates should not spend too much time on this part as it only serves as an introduction to the main part.
Next, candidates need to introduce some clothing styles that person likes to wear, while also exploring why both know each other. Furthermore, candidates can delve into the person's personality traits, for example, the person has a good dressing style but tends to spend quite extravagantly.
Finally, candidates need to explain why that person has such a good dressing style. It could be because of a passion for fashion from a young age, or reading fashion magazines and watching fashion shows, etc. Candidates should choose the person they know best to have more information to talk about.
2.1. Example 1

I first met Robbie when I was around fifteen years old. Robbie dressed differently than any other person I had ever met. He was an exchange student from America while I was a high school student. We didn’t actually interact with many foreigners back then, so we weren’t familiar with other cultures’ fashions. We were all taken aback when this exchange student from thousands of miles away arrived dressed in outfits that none of us had ever seen before.
Robbie naturally was our age, but he seemed like he was from another planet. His behavior, speech, and clothing were different, as I mentioned. Unlike the rest of us, he didn’t wear a school uniform because he was an exchange student.
However, what he considered typical for most people wasn’t necessarily normal for him. He had an odd style, yet it was effective for him. He layered many types of clothing over one another and paired bright, strong colors, for example, wearing a sports jacket over a vest with a tie but no collar.
Everyone felt he was awesome as a result of it because it was so rare. He also donned a variety of headwear, despite the fact that hats weren’t particularly fashionable at the time. Even yet, his choice of clothing stood out more because no one else was wearing it.
I believe Robbie’s appearance exuded confidence, which was most crucial. I suppose he just didn’t care what other people thought, or perhaps he had a special sense of what would look beautiful on him, even if it seemed odd. In any event, he had a knack for choosing colors and outfit combinations that gave him a distinctly individual look.
Translation
I first met Robbie when I was about fifteen years old. Robbie dressed differently from anyone I had ever met. He was an exchange student from the United States when I was in high school. Back then, we didn't really interact with many foreigners, so we were unfamiliar with the fashion of other cultures. We were all surprised when this exchange student from thousands of miles away arrived in clothes none of us had ever seen before.
Of course, Robbie was our age, but he had the demeanor of someone from elsewhere. He behaved differently, spoke differently, and dressed differently, as I mentioned earlier. Because he didn't wear a school uniform, unlike us. He wasn't required to wear it because he was an exchange student, so he did.
However, what he considered typical for most people wasn't necessarily normal for him. He had a unique style that suited him. He mixed various types of clothes and combined bright, bold colors, such as wearing a sports jacket over a vest with no collar.
Everyone thought he was fantastic because of his rare styles. He also wore many types of hats, although in reality, hats weren't particularly fashionable at that time. However, his choice of clothes stood out because no one else wore them.
I believe Robbie's appearance exudes confidence - the most important thing. I think he doesn't care what others think, or perhaps he has a special sense of what looks good to him, even if it seems quirky. In any case, he excels in choosing colors and combining outfits that give him a distinctly personal appearance.

Wearing nice clothes and going outside to enjoy the great outdoors is one of my favorite things to do. Mr. Jane Patowary is one of many individuals I know that enjoy dressing extremely well, sometimes even a step beyond myself.
To give Mr. Jane Patowary a little introduction, he is a very successful businessman in our community. Although I can’t say for sure how old he is, I feel that he can’t be older than 50 based on the way he speaks, acts, and carries himself in front of the public. He might be older than 50, of course, but I still brought it up since I’ve always thought a man should be successful when he’s at least 50.
To continue, let me just say that I first met Mr. Patowary at my uncle’s restaurant a few years ago. Even though I didn’t know he was the chairman and owner of a number of great businesses at the time, I did realize that his sense of style was rather extraordinary.
Every time I've seen him at my uncle's restaurant (Mr. Patowary frequents my uncle's restaurant due to his strong friendship with my uncle), he's always dressed in either navy blue or pastel yellow.
In fact, anytime I have seen him dressed that way, I have intuitively deduced that his sharp-looking t-shirts or full-length shirts, perfectly pressed suits, and shiny, full-leather shoes were expressly “made to order” by premium labels. He looks much sharper and more graceful than he should at his age thanks to his gorgeous “Ray-Ban” sunglasses, too!
So yes, Mr. Patowary does dress extremely nicely, but not because he favors pricey labels, but rather because he is highly aware of what exactly complements his whole physical make-up and appearance. He appears much younger and more vibrant than he actually is, in my opinion, in part because of the clothes he wears.

Wearing beautiful clothes and going out to enjoy the great outdoors is one of my favorite things to do. Mr. Jane Patowary is one of many people I know who loves to dress well, sometimes even surpassing myself.
Let me introduce Mr. Jane Patowary, a very successful businessman in life. Of course, he could be over 50, but I still mention this because I always think a man should succeed when he is at least 50 years old.
To continue, I would like to share that the first time I met Mr. Patowary was at my uncle's restaurant a few years ago. Although I didn't know he was the chairman and owner of several large businesses at the time, I realized his style was quite extraordinary.
From then on, every time I see him at my uncle's restaurant (Mr. Patowary frequents my uncle's restaurant due to his close friendship with my uncle), I always notice that he is dressed entirely in either navy blue or pastel yellow.
In fact, whenever I see him dressed like that, I always intuitively deduce that his oversized polo shirts or impeccably ironed vests and glossy leather shoes are clearly 'custom-made' by upscale individuals. He looks much more elegant and charming than his age thanks to the beautiful 'Ray-Ban' sunglasses!
Yes, Mr. Patowary dresses extremely well, but not because he likes expensive brands, but because he has a clear understanding of what exactly enhances his overall makeup and appearance. In my opinion, he looks much younger and more vibrant than reality, partly because of the clothes he wears.

3. IELTS Speaking part 3: Describe someone you know who dresses well
Let's listen to Mytour's Part 3 podcast together:
3.1. Do you believe online shopping will eventually replace shopping in physical stores? Why?
Although I believe it is currently well on its way to doing so, I do not believe it will ever completely replace it. It is quite doubtful that brick and mortar stores would ever entirely vanish since there is something about visiting a store and perusing the shelves that will tempt people to buy stuff they didn’t need. In a world where commerce rules, this makes sense.
- Brick and mortar stores (n): các cửa hàng truyền thống
(Despite my belief that it is currently on a strong development trend, I do not believe it will completely replace it. I am quite skeptical that traditional stores will disappear entirely because there is something about visiting a store and browsing through shelves that tempts people to buy things they don't need. In a commercial world, this makes sense.)
3.2. Are you someone who enjoys keeping up with fashion trends?
I’m not at all interested in fashion. While I do enjoy dressing nicely, I make that decision entirely for myself and don’t pay attention to brands or designers since I couldn’t give a damn what others think. My close friends are the only individuals outside myself whom I would listen to regarding fashion because I believe they have my best interests at heart.
- Give a damn: quan tâm
- At heart: thật lòng
(I have no interest in fashion at all. Although I like to dress nicely, I make that decision entirely for myself and do not pay attention to brands or designers because I cannot care about what others think. My close friends are the only ones outside whom I listen to about fashion because I believe they genuinely care about my well-being.)
3.4. Are older people as fashionable as young people? Why?
I believe that as people age, they become less concerned about appearance. Who cares if they don’t? At least in my perspective, trends seem to be issues that young people face. I don’t blame my granddad for not caring about fashion at all.
- Perspective (n): quan điểm
(I believe that as people age, they become less concerned about appearance. Who cares if they lose interest? At least from my perspective, trends seem to be an issue that young people have to face. I don't blame my grandfather for not caring about fashion at all.)
3.5. Are women more stylish than men? Why?
I believe that women are traditionally supposed to care more about fashion, and as a result, they often do. It is obvious at least to me that there is no biological factor or comparable explanation for why women would naturally be more trendy; rather, this is a product of our civilizations.
- Trendy (adj): hợp thời trang
- Civilizations (n): nền văn minh
