Got my hands on the Samsung Odyssey G9 57 inch, codenamed G95NC, boasting an impressive resolution of 7680x2160 pixels, equivalent to two 4K screens side by side.
The standout feature of the Odyssey G9 57 inch is its 7680x2160 pixel resolution, equivalent to having two 4K monitors seamlessly merged. Exciting times ahead as we explore its capabilities with the RTX 4080 and RTX 4090 Laptop.
Fortunately, with DLSS 3, coupled with Frame Generation feature, most of the games I tested with Odyssey Neo G9 managed to surpass 60 FPS mark. There's only one exceptional case, Cyberpunk 2077, at 2x4K resolution and highest graphic settings, just missing path tracing, the game fluctuates between 55 to 59 FPS.
I think, if one has invested nearly 60 million VND to own this monitor, there's no reason why gamers wouldn't go all out to invest in RTX 4090. But even the most powerful graphics card in the world currently describes an issue in the gaming hardware market. Odyssey Neo G9 57 inch supports DisplayPort 2.1 connection, that's how it has enough bandwidth to handle 7680x2160 pixel resolution, pushing up to 240Hz refresh rate. But the current most powerful AMD card, RX 7900 XTX, loses in performance compared to Nvidia's RTX 4090. Surprisingly, RTX 4090 released at the end of 2022 only has DP 1.4a connection. My RTX 4080 is the same.
As a result, the monitor only operates at the bandwidth of DisplayPort 1.4a standard, meaning the maximum refresh rate on Windows can only reach 120Hz instead of 240Hz. But speaking of it, if games only range from 55 to 90 FPS, then 240Hz on Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 isn't something that RTX 4080, or even RTX 4090 can fully exploit. 2x4K 120Hz resolution is more than enough to create an overwhelming experience for anyone sitting in front of this Samsung gaming monitor, I guarantee it.

From Cyberpunk 2077 to Spider-Man 2, both resolution and contrast, thanks to the power of Mini LED technology, are guaranteed. The only thing I feel lacking in my setup is the frame rate speed. Fortunately, with Frame Generation supported in many games, the frame rate remains stable for gaming experience, and more importantly, for capturing gameplay footage to share with fellow gamers. There are always game genres perfectly suited for 32:9 aspect ratio displays, ever since IMAX announced the Ultrawide 3.6 format in 2016. Samsung itself was among the pioneers introducing 32:9 monitors for entertainment purposes back in 2017.
The second genre perhaps is role-playing games, like Spider-Man 2 or Red Dead Redemption 2, games with a third-person perspective, placing the character at the center surrounded by vast and detailed environments. Another example is Resident Evil 4 Remake, a horror game with many scenes featuring high contrast, perfect to showcase the power of Mini LED panels meeting VESA DisplayHDR 1000 standards.
On Monday, the weight of the screen is something to consider. To operate efficiently, the Odyssey Neo G9 57-inch is substantially heavier than the Odyssey OLED G9. If including the stand, the screen weighs up to... 19 pounds, and with a width of over 1.3 meters, you'll need a sufficiently large and sturdy desk. Fortunately, the screen stand is robust enough to bear the entire weight of over 14 pounds, with 4 fixed screws instead of spring clamps like other standard VESA monitors.
Thirdly, let's discuss the PC configuration required to fully utilize the power of this monitor. As mentioned earlier, the number of computers with graphics cards equipped with DisplayPort 2.1 connections is now countable on one hand, as Nvidia's Ada Lovelace remains with the DP 1.4a standard. Thus, while the resolution can be handled, the 240Hz refresh rate is currently manageable by GPUs but gaming at that frame rate is not feasible. Perhaps we'll have to await new GPU architecture like RDNA 4 or Blackwell in the next two years.
And finally, the most important aspect is the price. 60 million Vietnamese Dong is a figure that allows enthusiasts to own a high-end computer setup with hardware such as Core i7 or RTX 4070 Ti. The 32:9 aspect ratio monitor market is already niche, and the potential customer base that the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 57-inch targets is even more specialized.
When assessing the capabilities of a widescreen monitor for entertainment purposes, the Odyssey Neo G9 leaves no room for disappointment, particularly in contrast and resolution. Samsung seems to have crafted this monitor akin to how two games, Cyberpunk 2077 and Control, were released around 2019, 2020. The hardware of that time couldn't do justice to these games in terms of quality or frame rate. It was only with the advent of the next generation GPU that these PC gaming masterpieces truly shone, becoming real-world benchmarks for computer performance.
The Odyssey Neo G9 57-inch follows suit. Already, it provides an experience that entices many with its 32:9 aspect ratio gaming. However, it will take more time for this monitor to unleash its full potential. Who knows, when GPUs powerful enough to fully utilize its display capabilities are released, perhaps that will be when Samsung introduces a 2x4K resolution monitor, but with an OLED panel?
