IELTS Writing task 2
Some people think it is a good thing for senior managers to have much higher salaries than the other workers in a company. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
(Một số người cho rằng việc các quản lý cấp cao có mức lương cao hơn nhiều so với những công nhân khác trong công ty là điều tốt. Tới mức độ nào bạn đồng ý hay không đồng ý?)
Step 1: Analyze the topic
- Từ khoá: Good thing, senior managers, much higher salaries, other workers
- Câu hỏi: Ở đây đề bài yêu cầu thí sinh đưa ra quan điểm đồng tính hay phản đối, và Mytour sẽ theo hướng đồng tình nhé.
Step 2: Plan your essay
Thân bài 1 | Thân bài 2 |
Topic Sentence: Opponents of higher salaries for senior managers may argue that such a disparity could be perceived as unequal and unfair. Supporting Ideas: – Low-income earners may work longer hours and engage in physically demanding jobs but earn significantly less than senior managers. – This perceived inequality could lead to demotivation and lower levels of staff morale and retention. – However, this argument is not convincing as senior managers have typically invested considerable effort, time, and money in education and experience to reach their positions. | Topic Sentence: Providing higher salaries to senior managers can serve as a strong motivator for subordinates to develop themselves and climb the corporate ladder. Supporting Ideas: – Employees understand that greater experience and expertise lead to higher earning potential. – Senior managers bear immense responsibilities that significantly impact business development and profitability. – Competitive salaries for senior managers can ensure employee loyalty and attract talented individuals to the organization, benefiting the business as a whole. |
Step 3: Complete the essay
Sample 1:
Some argue that senior managers should earn higher salaries than other employees in the same organization based on their experience. While there are valid objections to this viewpoint, I believe such a policy should be implemented.
Opponents may argue that such a significant salary gap could be seen as unfair. They argue that lower-paid employees often work longer hours and in physically demanding roles, yet earn a fraction of what senior managers do. However, this perspective may not hold considering the effort, perseverance, and investment in education required to reach senior positions. Therefore, senior managers deserve higher incomes.
Furthermore, a hierarchical salary structure can motivate employees to develop their skills and advance in their careers. Senior executives bear significant responsibilities that impact business growth and profitability, justifying their higher salaries. Offering competitive compensation can also attract talented individuals to the organization.
In conclusion, while some argue against significant income disparities between managers and other employees, I believe rewarding seniority appropriately is crucial for organizational success. Competitive salaries for experienced leaders incentivize growth, attract talent, and ensure organizational stability.
Model 2:
In today's society, the issue of employee salaries holds significant importance. Some argue that senior managers should receive higher salaries compared to other employees within a company. I fully support this viewpoint due to several compelling reasons.
There are numerous reasons supporting this perspective; however, I will highlight two widely accepted ones. Firstly, the extensive experience and knowledge gained by managers throughout their careers justify higher salaries compared to junior or intermediate employees. Before becoming managers, they invested time and effort in mastering various lower-level roles. Therefore, these senior managers bear greater responsibility for overseeing processes that drive better business outcomes. Secondly, the significant pressures faced by senior managers necessitate higher compensation. Unlike juniors or intermediates who may have room for error, such mistakes are less acceptable at the managerial level. Thus, managers endure higher stress levels and may suffer from mental health issues, requiring additional expenses for medical care or treatment.
On the other hand, this viewpoint is not without criticism. Granting higher salaries exclusively to senior managers could appear unfair to other employees who contribute efficiently to the company's success. Their efforts are crucial in achieving higher profits for the business, thus warranting fair compensation based on performance. Otherwise, these high-performing employees may lose motivation to strive for greater achievements.
In conclusion, while this perspective garners both support and opposition to some extent, I am inclined to agree that senior managers should receive higher compensation than lower-level positions, as outlined in the aforementioned reasons.

It + be + Adj + that + Clause
E.g.: It is undeniable that climate change poses significant threats to our planet’s ecosystems. (Không thể phủ nhận rằng biến đổi khí hậu gây ra những mối đe dọa đáng kể cho hệ sinh thái của hành tinh chúng ta.)
Structure of sentences introducing issues in the introduction section:
In contemporary society, Noun + be + a matter of great importance.
E.g.: In contemporary society, environmental sustainability is a matter of great importance. (Trong xã hội hiện đại, sự bền vững của môi trường là một vấn đề hết sức quan trọng.)
