The graph below shows the average retirement age of males and females in six countries in 2003.

It is evident that Korea has the longest duration of employment for both genders. Korean men retired at an average age of 68 years and 8 months, while women retired approximately 18 months earlier. Australia, the USA, and Japan followed closely in retirement ages, with negligible differences among them.

Regarding men, retirement ages ranged from 64 years and 1 month to 67 years and 4 months, while for women, it varied between 63 years and 5 months to 66 years and 9 months. Australia had the lowest recorded retirement ages among these countries, whereas Japan had the highest.

In contrast, Italy and France exhibit comparatively lower retirement ages. Italian men retired at an average age of 58 years, and women at 57 years. In France, the retirement age was lowest, with men retiring at 57 years and 4 months, and women at 56 years and 9 months.

IELTS Writing task 2

Some people suggest that the government should spend money putting more works of art like paintings and statues into towns and cities to make them attractive places. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Some argue that governments should invest funds in installing more art pieces, such as paintings and sculptures, in towns and cities to enhance their appeal. Despite objections, I support this initiative for implementation. 

Opponents argue that more immediate needs such as infrastructure, education, and healthcare should receive a larger share of the national budget, which is often limited in most countries around the world.

Undoubtedly, these areas are crucial for a country's functionality and directly impact the well-being and livelihood of citizens. In contrast, art may be seen as a luxury aimed solely at enhancing a city's aesthetic appeal. 

Nevertheless, the economic benefits of public art should not be underestimated. Sculptures and statues can transform towns and cities into vibrant, culturally rich spaces. Such visually appealing cities not only enhance tourism but also attract businesses and investors, thus stimulating local economic development and creating more job opportunities.

Thus, the indirect economic advantages of public art can offset its initial costs and contribute significantly to the overall prosperity of citizens' lives.  

Furthermore, public art serves as a means to express and enrich culture. When governments integrate various artistic expressions into public spaces, they actively contribute to shaping the cultural identity of a community. Exposure to diverse art forms provides educational and inspirational experiences for residents, fostering pride and appreciation for cultural diversity.

In summary, despite valid concerns about how resources are allocated, the advantages of public art in enriching the cultural and economic landscape of a community sufficiently outweigh the initial costs of implementing artistic projects in urban and rural areas.
