IELTS Writing task 1
The diagrams below give information about a plan to redevelop an industrial site.
Step 1: Outline Creation
Overview paragraph: In general, while the outer road network around the area will remain unchanged, the inner region will undergo significant changes, primarily transitioning from an industrial to a residential zone, achieved through substantial expansion of residential areas and the establishment of internal private roads connecting newly built facilities.
Step 2: Essay Completion
The diagrams depict the current state of an industrial site and its future appearance after development. Overall, although the peripheral road system will stay the same, there will be notable transformations within, notably the shift from an industrial hub to a residential one. This will occur due to a substantial expansion of residential zones and the construction of internal roads linking new facilities.
Regarding changes within the central area of the site, a central yard is currently situated there, with an entrance and reception area to the north. After renovations, this area will feature a row of two-bedroom houses, replacing the current entrance area, while the yard will be converted into communal gardens. Further south of the yard, where an office complex and canteen are currently located, redevelopment is planned, with garages for parking vehicles being constructed.
Adjacent to the newly established communal gardens, there are plans to remove a parking area and storage room on the left side, making space for a large area dedicated to 3-bedroom and 4-bedroom houses, which will occupy the entire western side. On the eastern side, the area will undergo changes with the demolition of the factory located in the southeast corner, and residents will find an additional apartment with a parking space upon arrival. Exemplary Essay (Band 8.0)
As space travel becomes increasingly captivating, transitioning from the realm of science fiction to reality, the potential for advancements in space tourism is anticipated in the coming years. From my perspective, despite raising concerns, this progress is favorable.
Certainly, the drawbacks of venturing beyond Earth's atmosphere are clear. Firstly, it's widely recognized that space tourism caters mainly to the affluent, resulting in exorbitant costs due to safety measures, high energy demands, and complex technologies needed for space launches. This exacerbates global wealth inequality. Additionally, environmental impacts are inevitable.
To elaborate, with increased tourist activity, space debris, defunct human-made objects orbiting Earth, could proliferate, posing threats to operational satellites and future space endeavors. Furthermore, rocket emissions contribute to ozone layer depletion and worsen global warming.
Significantly, the high health risks associated with space travel are a major concern. Prolonged exposure to space conditions like radiation, microgravity, and extreme temperatures can lead to severe health issues or behavioral changes.
Nevertheless, these challenges can be addressed, and there are clear benefits to promoting space exploration. Despite space tourism's exclusivity, efforts can be made to broaden its accessibility, such as through government support or international initiatives.
Moreover, it's worth noting that with technological advancements and industry growth, costs are anticipated to decline. Additionally, current space tourism initiatives have minimal carbon footprints compared to other sectors, requiring space travel companies to adopt sustainable practices to address space debris and minimize environmental impacts.
Furthermore, the development of this industry can inspire more young individuals to pursue careers in science and technology, leading to further technological progress. This not only addresses health concerns but also pushes scientific boundaries and contributes to other industries' advancement.
To sum up, while space travel presents challenges such as high costs, environmental issues, and health risks, these can be managed, making it a positive development overall.
