It's not too difficult, no need for a grill, and it doesn't take much time to make beefsteak at home, so occasionally, you can step into the kitchen to prepare a delightful meal for the whole family.
I'm Thy An, 26 years old, living in Cau Giay district. Last week, I took a friend to dine at Moo Beef Steak on Nguyen Khanh Toan street. The beefsteak here is the best, and the most important thing is the accompanying sauce, which is absolutely delicious.
I've only been here a few times, but the beefsteak flavor is incredibly tender. The temperature and tenderness are spot on. The last time I had it with red wine sauce, I could feel a slight acidity, a bitter taste, and a slightly strong smell of wine blending with the delicious grilled meat flavor.

Moo Beef Steak is the renowned destination for beefsteak lovers in Hanoi.
Since I still crave it at home, I decided to recreate the beefsteak with wine sauce, not having all the ingredients and spices like at Moo Beef, but it still earned rave reviews from my husband. Let me share this for those who are also passionate about beefsteak like me.
Homemade beefsteak recipe without the need for a grill
Ingredients for beefsteak for 2 people:
- 500g beef (choose sirloin or tenderloin with little fat, no tendons to prevent drying out when grilling)
- 15ml red wine
- 1 lemon
- 1 clove of garlic
- Seasonings: salt, tasty pepper, rapeseed oil or olive oil.
You can purchase Rosemary leaves at various European stores, both dried and fresh ones work well. You don't need to buy too much, just around 5K VND is sufficient.

Ingredients for homemade beefsteak
How to make beefsteak for 2 servings:
Step 1: Peel and slice the garlic (if your garlic has green sprouts, remove them, as they have been stored for too long).
Step 2: Heat cooking oil, sauté the garlic until golden brown, then remove the garlic and drain on paper towels to reduce excess oil. Transfer the remaining oil in the pan to another bowl.

Slice the garlic, sauté until fragrant, then set aside the oil in another bowl.
Step 3: After cleaning and patting dry the beef, if there is excessive fat, remove some. Then, sprinkle a little salt, freshly ground pepper on the beef surface. This is an important marination step before grilling. In European specialty restaurants like Moo Beef Steak, beef at this marination stage may have additional herbs or spices according to each restaurant's cooking style.

In specialized beefsteak restaurants like Moo Beef Steak, the beef is marinated with spices and herbs according to their own recipe.
If you don't have much time at home, marinate with salt, pepper, and if you can find rosemary leaves at European stores, marinate with them to make French-style beefsteak.

When I prepare it at home, it's simple: just pepper, salt, and add rosemary leaves if you want to make French-style beefsteak.
Step 4: Heat a pan, add rapeseed oil for frying the garlic, but don't let the oil get too hot, just when it starts to feel warm, add the beef to fry. Note: Do not flip or move the beef like other fried dishes. Gently press the meat with a spatula to help it dry quickly.

Heat the pan and place the beef to fry, but remember not to move it like other fried dishes.
After about 1.5 - 2 minutes, flip the beef to slightly sear both sides until they have a light golden brown color. When dining at Moo Beef Steak, you can order grilled beef with different levels of doneness, usually 3 levels: rare (cooked outside, charred edges, pink inside), medium rare (cooked outside, slightly pink inside), or well-done (cooked outside and inside).

At Moo Beef Steak, you can customize the beefsteak to your preferred level of doneness.
Step 5: Cut the lemon, squeeze the juice over both sides of the beef, then add red wine. Let it sit for about 1 - 1.5 minutes, then turn off the heat and remove the beef. You can slice it beforehand or keep it whole depending on your serving preference. Arrange the beef and sprinkle some fried garlic slices on the side for garnish.

Add lemon juice and red wine, then turn off the heat.

Prepare a side salad or creamy sauce, tomato sauce to enjoy alongside.

Finally, plate it up, add garlic, side salad or sauce for enjoyment.
It's not too difficult, no need for a grill, and it doesn't take much time to make beefsteak at home, so occasionally, you can step into the kitchen to prepare a delightful meal for the whole family. But if you want to enjoy beefsteak in the true European style, served with special sauces and herbs brought from Italy or France, the quickest advice is to head to a restaurant!
