Expert Strategies for Horse Chess Mastery
Mastering the art of playing Horse Chess for beginners
1. Rules of Horse Chess
- Components of the Horse Chess set: Divided into 4 sections with 4 different colors including green, blue, red, and yellow, featuring four dice and 16 horse chess pieces split into 4 groups with 4 different colors (matching the colors on the horse chessboard)
- Number of players: Minimum 2 and maximum 4
The chessboard for Horse Chess is a square, with 4 colors corresponding to 4 players. Each player will have their own areas like:
- Grassland Area: Where the horse roams freely, placing the horse when not yet participating in the game.
- Starting Position: Where the horse takes its first step when it moves from the grassland area.
- Stable: A rectangular shape, consisting of squares numbered from 1 to 6.
* Initial Setup
Prior to commencing the game, each participant selects 4 horse tokens of matching colors and positions them within the appropriate meadow space.
* Gameplay
The initial player rolls the dice. Upon your turn, you shall roll the dice as well. The face of the dice that lands facing upwards determines the movement of your horse token.
Deploying a single token: When a player rolls the dice and reveals a 6, they are permitted to deploy a token. Place a horse token on the Start position. Subsequently, the player continues to roll the dice for further movement. If they roll a 6 once more, they may proceed with additional rolls and movements or opt to deploy another token. Should the dice display a number other than 6, move the token according to the number of dots shown. For instance, if the dice shows 4 dots, advance the token 4 spaces, then pass the turn to the subsequent player.
Moving pieces: The number on the dice indicates the number of squares a chess piece moves. For instance, if the dice show 5, the knight chess piece will move 5 steps (5 squares). The direction of movement for the knight is also clockwise. Moreover, if you roll the dice and get a 1, and there are no opponent pieces blocking the path from your current position to the next stable door position, you can fly the knight straight to the stable door. However, if you roll more than 1, you must bring all your knights back to the stable.
Note: When you roll a 6, you can choose to deploy a piece or move an existing piece on the board and then roll the dice again.
* Into the stable
When your piece completes one lap on the board and reaches the Stable Door, your opponent can still kick your pieces. Therefore, you need to carefully consider so that your pieces are not kicked.
When your piece reaches the stable door, roll the dice. Whatever face shows up, place your piece in that numbered square. For instance, if you roll a 4, put your piece in square 4. If your piece is already in square 4, you must climb gradually, not leapfrog. For example, if your piece is in square 3, you need to roll 4, 5, and 6 to climb gradually.
