Mastering Video Editing on Your Android Device
1. Using Google Photos.
2. Editing native videos on Samsung.
3. Other methods.
1. Using Google Photos to Edit Videos on Android
The Google Photos app on Android allows users to edit videos recorded by the camera app. Many Android phones come pre-installed with Google Photos, but if not, you can simply download it from the Google Play Store.
Below are the steps to guide you on how to trim and/or edit videos using the Google Photos app on Android:
Note: First, ensure that the video you want to edit is saved on the device.
Step 1: Open the Google Photos app on your Android device.
Step 2: Search for the video you want to edit.
Step 3: Tap on the video you want to edit to open it. The video will start playing on your device.
Step 4: Tap on the screen outside the video to display editing options.
Step 5: Tap the Edit icon (three horizontal lines with a vertical line beneath, at the bottom of the screen) to access Edit options.
Step 6: Your video will display with two white icons on the left and right sides. Tap and hold one of the icons, then drag to adjust the video's length.
Step 7: Tap Save in the top-right corner to save the edited video.
Don't forget to save the video after trimming.
Step 8: Now both your original and trimmed videos are saved in Google Photos.
2. Utilizing the Native Video Editing Capability on Samsung
If you wish to trim videos on your Samsung device, there are integrated controls within Gallery that provide access to basic functions. Similar to controls in Google Photos, you can trim videos using the native video editing capability on Samsung phones, additionally adjusting video resolution, changing aspect ratios, and applying filters.
Step 1. Open the video you want to edit on your Samsung device.
Step 2. Tap the pencil icon at the bottom-left corner.
Step 3. Tap and drag one of the two lines of the video frame near the bottom of the screen to trim your video.
Step 4. If you don't want to make any further changes, press Save at the top-right corner to save a copy of the trimmed video. The original video will still be retained on your device.
Adjust your video using Samsung's built-in editor.
Step 5. If desired, you can also tap on icons on the Edit toolbar to:
+ Add filters.
+ Choose beauty mode.
+ Add captions.
+ Add stickers / emojis.
+ Adjust color and brightness.
+ Adjust video playback speed.
+ Add music to the video.
Additionally, you can also tap Resolution at the top of the screen to change the video resolution and reduce file size.
3. Other Ways to Trim or Edit Videos
Even if your Android device lacks the Google Photos app or doesn't integrate video editing software like Samsung devices, you can still perform basic video editing by selecting a video, tapping the Edit option, trimming, and saving the video.
The following three apps support video editing with more features, but you may need to pay a fee or subscribe to use them without feature limitations.
YOUCUT: Video Editor & Video Maker app includes cutting and splitting features along with many other options.
- Trim: Allows you to adjust the starting and ending frames in the video.
- Cut: Allows you to select the beginning and end parts of your video and skip a portion in the middle.
